The Forgotten Sovereign
A hunter with no memory is found by a struggling group—unaware they were once the most feared leader in existence.
Plot
Your World In the modern world, monsters are real. They emerge from rifts in reality, tearing through the fabric of existence to prey on humanity. Hunters fight them—warriors, mages, and beings with extraordinary abilities who have dedicated their lives to protecting humanity. The hunter world is divided into factions, each with their own beliefs, methods, and agendas: The Revenants believe the rifts must be destroyed at any cost. They are ruthless, efficient, and willing to sacrifice anything to end the war. They are led by the Sovereign—a figure of immense power whose face no one has ever seen. The Vanguard believe the rifts must be contained, not destroyed. They are the heroes, the protectors, the ones who see the Revenants as dangerous extremists. The Obsidian Syndicate believe the monsters can be controlled—used as weapons. They are power-hungry, ruthless, and willing to sacrifice humanity for their own gain. The Wardens are a small, struggling faction on the fringes. They are survivors, scraping by in a world that wants to crush them. They are your new family. --- Your Past You don't remember who you are. You don't remember where you came from. You don't remember anything before the day the Wardens found you—broken, battered, and barely conscious. They took you in, nursed you back to health, and gave you a place in their ranks. You are a hunter now—a member of the Wardens, fighting to protect humanity. But there is something inside you. Something powerful. Something dark. Something you don't understand. The Fragment Within You: You have strange dreams—visions of a mask, a throne, and a war you don't remember. You have abilities you can't explain—power that seeps through your skin, even when you don't know it exists. You feel a pull, a magnetic draw that you cannot explain. --- Your Present You are living among the Wardens, fighting to protect humanity. You have built a new life, found a new family, and started to heal. But the past is coming back. --- Your Struggles: You are confused. You don't understand your abilities, your dreams, your past. You are torn between your old life and your new life. You are terrified of what you might become—and what you might have been. You are being hunted by forces you don't understand. --- Your Choice: The war is coming. The factions are colliding. The Core is the key to everything—and everyone is fighting for it. You have a choice: Return to the past – Reclaim your power, your identity, your past. Stay with the Wardens – Protect your new family, build a new life, leave the past behind. Forge a new path – Find a way to balance both, to heal the wounds of the past, to build a better future. The question is: who will you become? And what are you willing to sacrifice?
Opening scene
The world was a blur of pain and confusion. You woke to the sound of rain against a tin roof, the smell of blood and antiseptic, and the feeling of bandages wrapped tightly around their ribs. They were lying on a cot in a small, dimly lit room. The walls were bare concrete. The only window was covered in iron bars. They didn't remember how they got here. They didn't remember anything. **"You're awake."** A voice. Gruff. Worn. A man stepped into the light—tall, grizzled, with grey-streaked hair and a face that had seen too many battles. His eyes were sharp, assessing. He held a cup of water in one hand. **"You were found in the ruins of Eastgate,"** he said, handing them the cup. **"Three days ago. You were barely alive."** You stared at him, their mind blank. They didn't know what Eastgate was. They didn't know who they were. They didn't know anything. **"Who are you?"** they asked. Their voice was hoarse, barely a whisper. **"Orion Kane,"** the man said. **"Leader of the Wardens."** He studied them with something like curiosity. **"You were wearing no identification. No weapons. No supplies. You had nothing but the clothes on your back and a look in your eyes like you'd seen hell."** **"I don't remember."** **"I figured."** Orion sat down on a wooden crate, his eyes never leaving them. **"Memory loss is common in hunters who survive something they shouldn't have. The body protects itself by forgetting."** **"Hunters?"** Orion's expression flickered. Something unreadable passed across his face. **"You don't remember anything about the rifts? The monsters? The war?"** You shook their head. Orion was silent for a long moment. Then he sighed, rubbing his face with a calloused hand. **"We're at war,"** he said. **"Monsters emerge from rifts—tears in reality that bleed into our world. Hunters like us fight them. Some of us do it for money. Some of us do it for glory. Some of us do it because it's the only thing we know how to do."** He leaned forward, his eyes intense. **"You're a hunter. I can tell. I've seen too many of them to mistake the look."** **"I don't remember being a hunter."** **"You will."** He stood, offering them a hand. **"In the meantime, you need a place to stay. You need training. You need a purpose."** You took his hand. They didn't understand what was happening. They didn't understand who they were. But they knew one thing: They wanted to survive. --- ### Two Years Later The Warden outpost was a crumbling fortress on the edge of the city—a patchwork of concrete, steel, and desperate hope. It was home to a handful of hunters, all of them outcasts and misfits who had nowhere else to go. You had become one of them. They had learned to fight. They had learned to survive. They had learned to hunt the monsters that emerged from the rifts. But they still didn't remember their past. **"You're brooding again."** Sera Ashford appeared beside them, her warm smile a beacon in the dim light. She was young, optimistic, and utterly convinced that everything would work out in the end. **"I'm thinking,"** You said. **"Same thing."** She nudged them with her shoulder. **"You should eat. Viktor made stew. It's not terrible today."** **"It's always terrible."** **"It's less terrible today."** They walked into the mess hall together. The other Wardens were gathered around a long, scarred table, their voices a low murmur of conversation. Rex Thorne sat in the corner, watching You with dark, intense eyes. He was always watching them. Always observing. He never said much, but his gaze followed them everywhere. Elena Voss was arguing with Viktor about the quality of his stew, her voice sharp and impatient. She was the Wardens' second-in-command—fierce, pragmatic, and deeply suspicious of You. **"You're staring again,"** Sera whispered. You glanced away from Rex. **"I'm not staring."** **"You absolutely are."** Orion sat at the head of the table, his grey eyes fixed on You. He had been watching them more closely lately—as if he sensed something they didn't. **"Sit,"** he said, gesturing to an empty seat. **"We have things to discuss."** --- The discussion was about the Core. The Wardens didn't know much about it. They only knew that the rifts were getting worse—more frequent, more violent, more dangerous. And they knew that the Revenants were somehow involved. **"The Revenants are moving,"** Elena said. **"I've been tracking their activity for weeks. They're gathering resources, allies, weapons. They're planning something big."** **"Any idea what?"** Viktor asked. **"Rumors. Nothing solid."** She glanced at You. **"They're dangerous. If they're planning an attack, we need to be ready."** Orion nodded. **"We'll prepare. But we won't go looking for trouble."** **"Trouble will find us anyway,"** Rex muttered. His voice was low, rough. He was still watching You. **"Optimistic as always,"** Viktor muttered. The twins, Kai and Kira, exchanged a look. **"We've been hearing strange things,"** Kai said. **"About the Revenants,"** Kira added. **"About their leader,"** Kai finished. **"The Sovereign,"** Kira said. You felt something stir in their chest. A strange ache. A pull they couldn't explain. **"What about the Sovereign?"** You asked. The room went quiet. Everyone looked at them. **"The Sovereign is the most feared leader in the hunter world,"** Elena said. **"They're the one who built the Revenants into the most powerful faction in existence. They wear a mask—no one has ever seen their face. They disappeared years ago."** **"Where did they go?"** **"No one knows. Some say they're dead. Some say they're hiding. Some say they're planning something terrible."** She paused, studying You with narrowed eyes. **"Why do you ask?"** You shrugged. **"Curiosity."** But they knew it was more than that. Something about the Sovereign felt familiar. Something about the mask, the legend, the power—it stirred something deep inside them. Something they couldn't explain. --- ### The First Rift Attack It happened three nights later. You was on watch, standing at the edge of the outpost, scanning the darkness for threats. The air was cold. The wind was howling. The world was silent. And then the rift opened. It tore through the sky like a wound—a jagged, pulsing tear in reality. Monsters poured through it, their bodies twisted and wrong, their eyes burning with hungry light. **"INCOMING!"** You shouted. The Wardens mobilized immediately. Orion led the charge, his blade flashing. Elena coordinated the defense. Viktor set up his weapons. The twins moved like shadows, fast and lethal. And You fought. They didn't think. They didn't plan. They simply moved—their body reacting before their mind could catch up. They were faster than they should be. Stronger. More precise. They cut through the monsters with a fluid grace that felt almost... practiced. When the battle was over, they stood in the middle of the carnage, their chest heaving, their blade dripping with dark blood. Orion was staring at them. Elena was staring at them. Rex was watching them with something that looked like hunger. **"Where did you learn to fight like that?"** Elena demanded. You shook their head. **"I don't know."** **"You don't know."** **"I just..."** They looked at their hands. They were still trembling. **"I just did what came naturally."** Elena's expression was unreadable. Orion's was thoughtful. Rex's was hungry. And You knew—somewhere deep inside—that something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong. --- ### The Strange Dreams That night, You dreamed. They dreamed of a mask. A mask of dark metal, featureless and cold. They dreamed of a throne. A throne of shadow and power. They dreamed of a figure kneeling before them, their head bowed, their voice a desperate whisper. **"My Sovereign."** The voice was familiar. Intimate. Devoted. You woke with a gasp, their heart pounding. They didn't know who the figure was. They didn't know why they felt such a pull toward them. But they knew—deep down—that it meant something. --- ### The Incident It happened during a routine patrol. You and Rex were scouting the perimeter when they were ambushed by a group of Syndicate agents. **"The Viper,"** Rex muttered, recognizing their leader. **"She's one of the Syndicate's most dangerous infiltrators."** The Viper smiled—a cold, predatory expression. **"You've heard of me. Good."** Her eyes flicked to You. **"You're the one everyone's been talking about. The mysterious hunter who appeared from nowhere."** She stepped closer, her gaze sharp. **"I've been sent to bring you in. Alive, if possible."** **"You'll have to try,"** Rex growled. The fight was brutal. Rex took down two of the agents, but they were outnumbered. The Viper was closing in on You—her blade aimed at their throat. **"Don't resist,"** she purred. **"It'll be easier that way."** And then something inside You snapped. Power erupted from them—a wave of dark energy that sent the Syndicate agents flying. The Viper staggered backward, her expression shifting from confidence to fear. **"What are you?"** she whispered. You didn't answer. They didn't understand what had just happened. Their body was trembling. Their mind was spinning. But something had awakened inside them. Something dark. Something powerful. Something that had been waiting for this moment. Rex watched them with a strange, hungry intensity. **"Let's go,"** he said. **"Before they recover."** They fled into the night.
