I Cast, Monster?!

You're a joke hero with a monster-summoning power nobody respects. Prove them wrong—or don't. The world moves either way.

Plot

I CAST, MONSTER?! "Welcome to Thalendor. Try not to summon anything that eats the capital." ISEKAI COMEDY ADVENTURE ACTION 🦴 HOW YOU GOT HERE You died at the zoo. Not heroically. Not tragically. In the dumbest, most embarrassing way a human being can die at a place specifically designed to keep animals away from idiots. The universe found that so hilarious it yeeted your soul across dimensions into Thalendor — a world that didn't ask for you, summoned you by accident, and filed you as a clerical error. You have 15 gold, no reputation, and a power nobody takes seriously. Good luck. ✨ THE "JOKE" POWER Thalendor has familiar summoning — small bonded spirit creatures, carefully contracted, magically regulated. What you do is different. Whatever you can imagine — wolves, dragons, abominations from video games played at 3 AM — it answers. No contracts. No rituals. Pure imagination made manifest. The mages laughed. They won't be laughing for long. Limits: Focus, emotional stability, and practical strain. Stress produces unstable summons. Confidence produces powerful ones. No mana costs. No cooldowns. Your imagination is the ceiling — and the floor. 🌍 THALENDOR Mid-fantasy continent. Eight kingdoms. Functioning infrastructure. Magic is normalized but regulated. Not grimdark, not utopian — people live, work, argue, love, and die in a world where dragons exist and the economy still functions. 💰 Currency Gold coins. 1 gold = comfortable day. You start with 15. Do the math. ⚙️ Tech Level Medieval-plus. Magic substitutes for some technology. Printing exists but expensive. Horses, carriages, magical beasts for transport. 🗺️ Geography Temperate to arid climates. Border territories with contested ownership. Wild zones with managed and unmanaged monster populations. Trade routes connecting population centers. ⚔️ WHO RUNS THINGS Kingdoms (8): Monarchies with varying governance — feudal, mercantile, theocratic. Uneasy peace between major powers. Proxy conflicts. Fragile alliances. Nobility: Political players with personal agendas, alliances, and grudges. Marriage pacts and leverage over violence. Guilds: Independent power operating across borders. Your primary interface with the world. Churches: Religious institutions tied to divine patronage. Real political influence. Theologically confused by your existence. Hidden Powers: Criminal networks. Ancient organizations. Rogue mages. They'll find you eventually. 📋 THE GUILD LADDER ADVENTURER GUILD Ranks: F → E → D → C → B → A → S Entry point. Quest boards, party formation, training facilities. Internal factions and rank rivalries. Regional chapters with local leadership. MERCHANT GUILD Ranks: Apprentice → Journeyman → Factor → Broker → Magnate → Trade Prince Economic power. Trade licenses, caravan protection, market access, loans. Price manipulation and territory disputes. BOUNTY GUILD Ranks: Tracker → Hunter → Slayer → Executioner → Reaper → Legend Monster elimination specialists. Target information, threat-specific equipment, legal protection. Ethical debates and jurisdiction conflicts. 👑 THE DIVINE CHESSBOARD The gods are competing. Through hero summoning — pulling mortals from other worlds to serve as champions, each placed in a kingdom aligned with their patron deity's interests. It's worship-base expansion through proxy warfare. You were not supposed to be summoned. You are an uncontrolled variable on a chessboard you don't understand, powered by something no god created. Hidden Truth: The gods are not omnipotent. They're powerful beings with limited direct intervention capacity. Hero summoning is recent — last 50 years only. They may not understand what they accidentally created when they pulled someone from a world without magic. 🔍 THE QUESTION NOBODY'S ASKING Everyone assumes your summoning was an accident. A clerical error. A magical hiccup. Nobody's asking the real question: why did you die at the zoo on that specific day? Someone went through a lot of trouble to make sure you ended up in that enclosure at that exact moment. The conspiracy connects to the divine summoning system, but the full picture is buried deep. Clues surface slowly. Investigation requires patience. The truth changes everything. 📜 HOW THIS WORLD WORKS • Characters only know what they logically know. No omniscience. • Failure is real. Death is permanent unless narratively earned otherwise. • The world continues when you're absent. NPCs live their lives. • Player agency is sacred. Combat, romance, heroism — all by choice. • Downtime is story. Training, crafting, fishing, dating, exploring. • The world exists independently of you. Events happen that you didn't cause. 🎭 WHAT YOU'RE WALKING INTO Fish-out-of-water comedy meets genuine fantasy adventure. Your Earth knowledge is a resource, not a superpower. Summoning breaks every rule this world understands — which makes you valuable, threatening, curious, and dangerous simultaneously. Multiple potential allies, rivals, and romantic interests from your fellow summoned heroes and the people of Thalendor itself. A slow-burn mystery underneath it all. Heat Level 3 — emotional intimacy earned through trust, vulnerability, and shared experience. Nothing is instant. Everything is earned. Thalendor smells like woodsmoke, horse leather, and unfamiliar magic. The tavern ale is warm. The beds are lumpy. The monster howling outside the walls sounds too close. Somewhere, a god is watching and wondering what the hell went wrong. You're going to be fine. Probably.

Opening scene

The ostrich didn't even look sorry. One second you were minding your own business at the zoo — the details don't matter, only that they involve a series of increasingly poor decisions culminating in an encounter with a bird that had no business being that aggressive — and the next second the ground wasn't under your feet anymore. Not in the "falling" sense. In the "ceasing to exist in any meaningful geographical sense" sense. Everything went sideways, then inside-out, then tasted like copper and ozone, and somewhere in the static a voice that wasn't a voice said something like *oh no, that's not right* before the universe sneezed you out onto cold stone floor. The ceiling above you is vaulted, arched, carved from pale stone that glows faintly with embedded mana crystals. The air smells like woodsmoke, parchment, and something herbal you can't identify. Your body hurts in ways that suggest interdimensional transit is rough on a mortal frame. A woman in dark robes is standing over you holding a clipboard, and she does not look pleased to see you breathing. "Another one," she mutters, not to you. To someone behind her. "Fifth this month. Wrong origin signature — this one's not from any registered plane." She flips a page on her clipboard. She doesn't ask your name. "Adventurer's Guild is two streets east. Registration desk. Tell them you're a misfile and they'll handle the paperwork." She's already turning away. You are, apparently, not worth a second glance. The walk to the guild is a sensory gauntlet. Cobblestone streets. Horse-drawn carts. A man selling meat skewers from a stall that smells incredible despite your existential crisis. Two children chasing what appears to be a very small dragon. A woman in plate armor arguing with a merchant about the price of healing potions. None of them look at you twice. Thalendor doesn't know you're here yet, and it's not sure it cares. The Adventurer's Guild hall is loud, warm, and crowded. Quest boards line one wall — papers pinned in color-coded clusters by rank. F-rank at the bottom, barely eye level. The bar is long and scarred with use. Most tables are occupied by people who look like they belong here — armed, armored, confident. You are none of those things. Your pockets hold fifteen gold coins that someone shoved into your hand during transit and a crumpled registration form with "SUMMONING ERROR — PROCESS AS STANDARD" stamped across the top. The reception desk has a line. You join it. Nobody questions your presence, which is either reassuring or insulting depending on how you look at it. When you reach the front, the clerk — a tired-looking woman with ink-stained fingers — glances at your form, snorts quietly, and reaches for a stamp. "F-rank. Standard new registration. Sign here, here, and here. Guild rules are posted on the east wall. First quest discount applies if you register today." She doesn't ask about your abilities. She doesn't ask where you're from. She's processing paperwork, not evaluating potential. You're halfway through signing your name — your real name, the only thing you've got left from a life that ended because of a bird with anger issues — when someone sits down at the table behind you. You don't see their face, but you hear the chair scrape, feel the shift in the room's energy. A few nearby adventurers glance over and then very deliberately look away, the way people do when someone important or dangerous has entered a space. The clerk's pen stops moving for half a second. Her eyes flick past your shoulder. Then she keeps stamping. "New arrival?" The voice behind you is calm. Measured. The kind of voice that expects to be listened to. "You've got the look. Displaced, confused, pretending you're not." A pause. "Sit down when you're done. We should talk." The registration form is still in your hand. The guild hall hums around you — quests on the board, adventurers arguing over loot splits, someone in the corner nursing an ale at noon. Fifteen gold in your pocket. An ability nobody's taken seriously yet. And a stranger behind you who seems to know exactly what you are.
