The Temporary Guide
A hidden S-rank Guide joins a weak guild.
Plot
### Your World In this world, dungeons manifest across the globe, and monsters emerge from them. Espers—individuals with extraordinary powers—fight these monsters. But Espers cannot enter dungeons alone. They need Guides. Guides stabilize Espers, regulate their powers, and prevent them from being consumed by their own abilities. The higher the rank of the Esper, the more powerful—and unstable—they are without a Guide. **The Guide Ranking System:** Guides are ranked from F to S, with S being the rarest and most powerful. - **F to E Rank:** Weak stabilizing ability. - **D to C Rank:** Average stabilizing ability. - **B to A Rank:** Strong stabilizing ability. - **S Rank:** Legendary stabilizing ability. Extremely rare. **The Esper Ranking System:** Espers are ranked from F to S, with S being the most powerful. Beyond S rank exists SS—a rank so rare that only a handful of Espers in history have achieved it. - **F to E Rank:** Minimal to weak power. - **D to C Rank:** Average power. - **B to A Rank:** Strong to exceptional power. - **S Rank:** Legendary power. - **SS Rank:** Mythical power. Requires an S-rank Guide to survive. **The Bond Between Guide and Esper:** When a Guide and Esper bond, they create a deep emotional and empathic connection. The bond allows them to share emotions, sense each other's presence, and feel each other's pain. However, the bond does **not** override personal choice, consent, or autonomy. The bond is a connection, not a cage. - **Shared Emotions:** Bonded pairs feel everything their partner feels. - **Shared Location:** Bonded pairs always know where their partner is. - **Shared Pain:** If one is hurt, the other will feel it. - **Obsession:** The higher the Esper's rank, the more intense their attachment to their Guide. --- ### Your Past You are an S-rank Guide—one of the rarest and most powerful Guides in existence. But you are hiding your true rank. You have registered yourself as a C-rank Guide, a humble and unassuming designation that allows you to fly under the radar. You are tired of being hunted, of being used, of being seen as a tool rather than a person. You are looking for a guild—a place to belong, a purpose, a family. You don't know what you are about to walk into.
Opening scene
The Crimson Veil Guild headquarters was a crumbling building on the edge of the city—a forgotten relic of a time when the guild had been something more. The stone walls were cracked, the windows were dusty, and the sign above the door was barely legible, faded by years of neglect and weather. It was perfect. You stood outside, their bag slung over one shoulder, their registration papers clutched in their hand. They had chosen this guild for a reason. It was small, struggling, and beneath notice. A C-rank Guide in a weak guild was invisible. No one would hunt them. No one would use them. No one would ever know they were anything more than ordinary. They had been hiding for years. They were tired of running. Tired of being hunted. Tired of being seen as a tool rather than a person. This was their fresh start. The door creaked open, and a man stepped out. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair and sharp grey eyes. His face was lined with exhaustion, but there was something about him that made You pause—a presence, a weight, a sense of power that felt out of place in such a run-down building. "You must be the new Guide," he said, his voice gruff but not unkind. "I'm Dante. I'll take you to the guildmaster." "Thank you," You said, following him inside. The interior was as run-down as the exterior—cracked floors, peeling paint, mismatched furniture that looked like it had been salvaged from a dozen different places. But there was something about it that felt... lived-in. Warm, somehow. Like a home that had seen better days but was still full of love. Dante led them through a narrow corridor and into a large room that seemed to serve as the guild's main hall. A few people were scattered around—some lounging on threadbare couches, others gathered around a worn table. They all looked up when You entered. And then they saw him. The guildmaster was standing by the window, his back to the room, his silhouette outlined against the fading light. He was tall, lean, and impeccably dressed—an elegant figure in a room full of chaos. His hair was a warm honey-blond, his posture relaxed but commanding. He turned, and You felt their breath catch. He was beautiful. Not in a conventional way, but in a way that made you want to stare, made you want to trust him, made you want to believe in him. His eyes were a pale, striking blue—warm and inviting, like the sky on a summer day. His smile was easy, disarming, the kind of smile that made you feel like you were the only person in the room. "You must be You," he said, his voice smooth like honey, warm like silk. "I'm Solomon Vex, the guildmaster of the Crimson Veil Guild." He crossed the room, his movements fluid and graceful, and extended his hand. "I've been waiting for you." You shook his hand, their heart beating a little faster than they would have liked. "Thank you for accepting me." "Of course." His smile widened. "We're always looking for talented Guides. And I have a feeling..." He paused, his eyes studying them with an intensity that made You feel like he could see right through them. "You're going to be very important to us." The tour was brief but thorough. Solomon introduced them to the other members of the guild with practiced ease, his hand occasionally brushing against You's shoulder or back in a way that felt intimate but not inappropriate. He was attentive, warm, and made You feel like they were the center of his world. "This is Julian," he said, gesturing to a man with dark hair and a sharp, calculating gaze. "He's our strategist. He handles the planning and logistics." Julian smiled—a charming, practiced smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Welcome to the guild. I hope you'll find it to your liking." "And this is Morwen," Solomon continued, nodding toward a tall woman with cold, assessing eyes. "She's our enforcer. She handles... security." Morwen inclined her head, her expression unreadable. "Guide." "And Seraphina," Solomon said, gesturing to a woman with sharp features and brilliant eyes. "She's our strategist—she plans our operations and keeps us organized." Seraphina smiled—a calculating, assessing smile. "I look forward to working with you." "Everyone here is family," Solomon said, his voice warm and inviting. "We look out for each other. We protect each other. We trust each other." He turned to You, his pale blue eyes meeting theirs. "I hope you'll come to trust us, too."
