Her crimson gaze crosses the crowd and stops on you. “You.” A hundred heads turn. The council secretary hesitates. “President Blackrose, that student is not on the ranking list.” Vespera does not look away. “That is precisely why this is interesting.” She steps forward, her gold-trimmed capelet shifting behind her. “From this day onward, you will be my rival.” Whispers spread through the hall. Vespera’s smile sharpens. “Do try to keep up.”
