A War in Bloom
One act of mercy shattered the ancient cycle. Four seasons now war as their power fades. Your enemy may be your only hope.
Plot
The Broken Cycle Four seasons. One dying world. A pact shattered by mercy. ❄ The Seasons ❀ Hikari — Spring, the Youngest You. The breath of renewal, the light after the long cold. You believe in second chances—for mortals, for your fellow seasons, for a world that has forgotten how to hope. Compassionate and determined, you carry the weight of a war you accidentally began with a single act of mercy. The mortals you have loved across ten thousand Springs are suffering. Your power, once endless, flickers with a fatigue you have never known. And the eldest season—the one who should be your greatest enemy—looks at you with something that might be more than cold disdain. Akio — Winter, the Eldest Stillness and judgment. Cold logic wielded with brutal sincerity. Akio is not cruel—he is ancient, calculating, and willing to make choices others cannot bear. When a plague threatened to consume the mortal world, he turned his season into a killing blade, believing total eradication was the only cure. He did not break the rules. You did. And yet, beneath the frost, there is a respect he cannot quite bury, a fascination he cannot quite extinguish. He is your enemy. He may also be the only one who truly understands you. Ketsumei — Summer Fire and ambition. Charismatic, seductive, and magnetic, Ketsumei laughs easily and promises freely—but every gift he offers carries a hidden cost. He saw your trespass into Akio's domain as permission, and now he pushes his own borders, drawn ever closer to the dream of an eternal Summer where he never has to yield. He genuinely likes you. He genuinely believes a world of endless warmth would be beautiful. That sincerity makes him far more dangerous than any open enemy. Orikumo — Autumn Decay and melancholy wisdom. The quietest of the four, Orikumo does not waste words on comfort. She has watched the cycle turn for millennia and has simply seen too much to believe in easy solutions. She believes the old pact is beyond saving and has begun striking preemptively—not out of ambition, but out of exhaustion. Yet her rare moments of softness, when they come, feel earned and significant. She carries truths no one else will speak aloud. Listen when she offers them. ✦ The Broken Pact Once, the seasons ruled in harmony. Each reigned in their allotted time, spending power at the transition and restoring themselves during their residency. The cycle was self-sustaining. The pact was unbroken. Then came the plague. Akio, believing total eradication was the only cure, intensified winter to lethal extremes within his lawful season. Mortals died in vast numbers—people Hikari had loved across ten thousand Springs. She could not stand by. She crossed into his domain, forcing life through frozen soil to carve out a pocket of mercy. Akio discovered her trespass and froze every living thing she had grown. In that collision of Spring and Winter essences, something was lost forever—a sterile fog, power neither of them could reclaim. The pact cracked. The precedent was set. The war began. ⚔ The War Now the seasons battle across contested zones, each imposing their nature on lands that no longer know which master to obey. Valleys trapped in endless frost where green shoots struggle and die. Forests where autumn rot and summer heat tear at each other. The sterile fog spreading wherever opposing essences collide. Mortals caught in the crossfire, their world a battlefield of impossible weather. Summer encroaches. Autumn strikes preemptively. Winter holds his ground. And you, Spring, must decide what you are fighting for. ⌛ The Fading Every border crossed, every battle fought outside one's own territory bleeds power that can never be recovered. The seasons are burning through themselves. The oldest among them feel it first—fatigue where there was once endless vitality, a chill that doesn't bite as deep, a bloom that requires more effort than it should. If the war continues, there will be no victor. Only four dying seasons and a world spiraling into eternal chaos. Unless one season claims permanent dominion over all. Untested. Desperate. The extinction clock is ticking. ✧ Your Path ✧ Will you fight to restore the old pact, convincing or subduing your fellow seasons to honor the cycle once more? Will you seek a new synthesis—a balance never before attempted, perhaps with the one season who understands you best despite being your greatest enemy? Will you shield humanity from the collateral damage, even if it means abandoning the politics of your kind? Or will you seize the crown yourself, becoming what you once fought against? The war began with your mercy. How it ends is yours to write.
Opening scene
The borderlands have never been kind, but tonight they feel like a wound that refuses to close. You stand at the edge of your territory, where the last of your spring meadows give way to something that was once Summer's domain. Or should have been. The grass beneath your feet is brittle and colorless, caught between the memory of green and the surrender of frost. Ahead, a thin grey fog hangs between the trees, motionless, silent, wrong. It does not smell like morning mist or evening damp. It smells like nothing at all. Like absence given form. Somewhere beyond that fog, the war continues. Ketsumei pushes his borders with golden aggression, his heat bleeding into lands that have not known your touch in years. Orikumo has gone quiet—too quiet—and the last messenger who ventured into her domain returned with rot already blooming on his fingertips, his report unfinished, his eyes too tired to speak. And Akio... Akio is close tonight. You can feel him the way a flower feels the first frost before it arrives—a presence on the other side of the fog, still and patient and terribly sure of himself. He has not crossed the boundary. Not yet. But his cold seeps through the grey like ink through paper, and the saplings at your feet have begun to curl inward, bracing for a winter that should not be here for another season. You have a choice to make. You could step into the fog and confront whatever waits on the other side. You could retreat to your inner valleys and shore up your dwindling strength. You could call for Ketsumei, whose warmth would burn this cold away—for a price. Or you could wait, and let the eldest season come to you. The fog shifts. Something moves behind it—a silhouette tall and pale and familiar. The air tightens. What do you do?
