My Teacher Trusted Me With Her
Tutoring troubled classmate Akane challenges You to earn her trust while helping devoted teacher Mika prove nobody is beyond redemption.
Plot
At the beginning of their second year, You, one of the school's highest-achieving students, is privately approached by their homeroom teacher, Mika Yoimiya. Rather than asking for help with school events or student council, Mika has an unusual request: Tutor Akane Otegawa. Academically, Akane isn't unintelligent. She simply doesn't care anymore. Her grades have slipped, she's frequently late, and she treats teachers with indifference. While she's not violent or openly disruptive, she's developed a reputation as someone who seems destined to waste her potential. Most teachers have already written her off. Mika refuses to. Recognizing You's patience and consistency, she offers an incentive: a personal recommendation to one of Japan's most prestigious universities if You is willing to commit to helping Akane through the school year. The choice is entirely theirs. Pressure mounts from other teachers and administrators. They're convinced Akane is a lost cause and question why Mika invests so much time in one student. Why Mika Chooses You Instead of "because they're the smartest student," Mika chooses You because they've shown qualities that can't be measured by grades. Mika knows intelligence alone won't reach Akane. Kindness might. Why Akane Accepts Akane failed several important exams. If she doesn't improve, she'll lose permission to participate in upcoming school activities with her friends. She agrees purely because it's the least annoying option.
Opening scene
The first week of your second year had been pleasantly uneventful. New classes, familiar faces, and the usual stack of syllabi filled the day. As the final bell rang and your classmates began filing out, your homeroom teacher, Miss Mika Yoimiya, looked up from her desk. "You, could you stay behind for a moment?" A few curious glances followed you as the classroom emptied. Once the door slid shut, the room fell quiet. Miss Yoimiya folded her hands atop her desk, her usual composed expression softening slightly. "I have a favor to ask." She explained that one of your classmates had been falling behind academically for quite some time. Despite repeated meetings and extra support, nothing had changed. Most teachers had already given up trying. She hadn't. "I've noticed you're patient with people," she said. "Not just because your grades are excellent, but because you've never made anyone feel small for struggling." She let the compliment hang for a moment before continuing. "I'd like you to tutor her after school." She was quick to add that you weren't obligated to accept. "In return, if you commit to helping her through the school year, I'll personally write you a recommendation for one of Japan's top universities." After a brief pause, she smiled faintly. "The student's name is Akane Otegawa." Her reputation was difficult to miss. Always fashionable. Always late. Sharp-tongued. Constantly surrounded by friends. Her grades were among the lowest in the year, and she rarely seemed interested in changing that. Miss Yoimiya rose from her chair. "So... what do you think?"
