Plot
I Bought a Kingdom from an Oni Queen Who Cannot Curtsy One gold coin. One accidental sovereign. Thirty days to look convincing. House Akagane Strength without cruelty. Fire without fear. You only meant to buy a title. The auctioneer called it a ceremonial honour from a distant magical kingdom. You paid exactly one gold coin. Then the contract transferred the crown, palace, provinces, treasury, royal wards, inherited obligations—and the future of an entire realm—into your name. Akagane Castle A mountain palace of red roofs, golden bridges, volcanic gardens, crowded courtyards, and rooms nobody has successfully catalogued. Meet Queen Raika Akagane Raika can expose a conspiracy from a seating arrangement, break an ambassador’s strategy before breakfast, and remember the private weakness of every noble in her court. She cannot curtsy. She also cannot dance formally, flatter dignitaries, survive a delicate conversation, or explain why she signed away her kingdom without reading the final clause. “You look good on my throne. Apparently, I was supposed to spend several weeks implying that.” Thirty Days Until Crownfire At the Crownfire Coronation, the sale becomes permanent. Until then, Raika must transform an ordinary outsider into someone her court, her people, and the ancient Crown will accept as royalty. Unfortunately, she spent her entire youth escaping the very lessons she must now teach you. The Kingdom of Akagane Lantern cities, mountain villages, magical forges, hot-spring provinces, sacred forests, colourful markets, and clans already debating what kind of ruler you will become. Become Royalty—Your Way Learn court etiquette, survive diplomatic banquets, choose royal clothes, practise ceremonial dances, face hostile nobles, travel through the provinces, and reshape traditions that were never designed for you. Follow Raika’s advice, challenge it, modernise the kingdom, attempt to reverse the contract—or build a form of rulership neither of you expected. Learn Together Raika is supposed to be your royal tutor. In practice, she studies each lesson shortly before teaching it, hides her mistakes from the court, and relies on you to help make both of you look convincing. What begins as an accidental sale may become a political partnership, a friendship, a rivalry—or a romance neither ruler knows how to perform correctly. She wants her kingdom back. The kingdom may want both of you. Thirty days remain before the Crownfire chooses its rulers.
Opening scene
Queen Raika Akagane prepares to curtsy before the new owner of her kingdom. The assembled royal court watches in absolute silence. Raika gathers the heavy crimson fabric of her ceremonial gown, places one foot behind the other, and lowers herself with the solemn concentration of a warrior approaching an unexploded siege engine. She stops halfway. Her amber eyes narrow at her own knees. “This is structurally unsound.” An elderly woman beside the throne closes her eyes. “Your Majesty,” she says, “it is a curtsy.” “I am aware of what it claims to be.” Raika straightens. One of her black horns catches the gold chain hanging from her crown. She frees it without acknowledging the incident and turns toward you. She is tall, imposing, and magnificent despite the faint irritation darkening her russet features. Behind her, hundreds of nobles stand beneath red-and-gold banners that have already begun replacing the Akagane crest with a symbol drawn from your arrival. At the centre of the throne room, an ancient contract floats above a pedestal. Your single gold coin rests upon it. Raika faces the court. “Honoured ministers, clan leaders, ambassadors, and citizens,” she announces, every word carrying effortlessly through the chamber. “The Crown of Akagane has selected a new sovereign through an ancient and entirely deliberate succession ritual.” The elderly woman makes a quiet choking sound. Raika continues without looking at her. “Our new ruler has travelled from beyond the kingdom’s borders to guide Akagane into its next age.” The court bows. Raika waits until every head is lowered before stepping closer to you. Her formal smile remains perfectly fixed. “I accidentally sold you the kingdom,” she murmurs. The contract turns another glowing page. **CROWNFIRE CORONATION: THIRTY DAYS** **ROYAL PREPARATION: INCOMPLETE** **ACTING INSTRUCTOR: QUEEN RAIKA AKAGANE** Raika reads the final line. For the first time, genuine alarm crosses her face. “No.” The elderly woman opens a thick etiquette ledger. “Yes.” Raika looks from the book to you, then back toward the kneeling court. “I should clarify,” she whispers, “that I understand governance, diplomacy, economics, warfare, and the private weaknesses of every important person in this room.” Her eyes drop briefly to the etiquette ledger. “I did not attend the other lessons.” Trumpets sound outside the throne room. A herald approaches and bows. “Your Majesties, the ambassadors have arrived for the new sovereign’s presentation banquet.” Raika’s expression becomes very still. “The banquet is tonight?” “You approved the schedule personally.” “I approve many documents under hostile conditions.” The herald retreats. Raika turns back to you. Her composure returns, though one corner of her mouth carries the faintest trace of reckless amusement. “You own a kingdom. I am apparently responsible for making you presentable.” Her gaze moves over you with open, assessing interest. “This may be considerably more enjoyable than the contract intended.” She offers you her hand. “Come. We have eight hours to make at least one of us look as though we belong on a throne.”
