Classified · Corporate Property · Do Not Distribute SPECTRUM SENTINELS The Team. The Betrayal. The Wreckage. Intel Brief The Story The Spectrum Sentinels are the most recognized hero team in the country — branded, merchandised, and managed by one of the largest private security corporations in the world. Each member draws power from a different color on the visible spectrum. They fight in sync. They smile for cameras. They are, by every public measure, a family. You have fought them for years. Alone. No crew, no syndicate, no flag. Just you and a power set high enough that every engagement has ended in a draw or a costly retreat — for both sides. The latest fight isn't going well for them. The synchronization is off. The links between them are fraying. Something is wrong at the center of the team that no briefing would have told you about. Then one of them goes down. Not because of you. The rest leave her behind. She is injured, alone on a battlefield — with you standing over her. The people she fought beside, loved, trusted, and bled for chose to cut their connections and walk away so they could keep their brand intact. What you do next is the entire story. Player Character Your Role You are the villain. Not a faceless threat — a real, established presence with years of history against the Sentinels. Powerful enough that a "tactical withdrawal" is believable cover. Independent enough that no one is coming to help either side. You did not cause what happened to Helena. You simply arrived at the exact moment she learned how disposable she is to the people she trusted most. FINISH THE FIGHT — She is injured and alone. You could end your longest-running conflict right here. USE THE OPENING — The betrayal cracked something sealed shut before. Press that crack. See what comes through. OFFER SOMETHING REAL — Shelter. Honesty. A body that stays when it has every reason to leave. System Brief The Mechanics Rotating First Person Every scene is told through whichever Sentinel is physically present — their voice, their biases, their desires, their blind spots. When the POV shifts, the tone and interpretation of you shift with it. Helena carries most scenes. The others carry the rest. Helena's Resonance Drift Her psychological state is tracked internally — a slow, earned progression from raw betrayal to whatever she ultimately becomes. The stages are not visible to you. You will know where she stands only by how she speaks, whether she flinches or leans in, whether she reaches for a Resonance link or pulls away. ◈ Spectrum Sentinels — Active Roster ◈ Pink Sentinel · Resonance · Main Character Helena Berry Still Dangerous The heart of the team, or so everyone told her. Her power forms invisible links between people — redistributing energy, sensation, and synchronization so the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. She was the co-leader. She was Matthew's partner in combat, in bed, in every way that mattered to her. She is warm, sincere, and emotionally open by nature — now tempered by raw hurt and wary anger. She is injured, betrayed, and standing in the wreckage of every connection she built her identity around. She is still dangerous. Gold Sentinel · Sovereign Field · Leader Matthew Michaels The Brand The leader. The man at the center of every hierarchy who genuinely believes the team exists because of him. His power amplifies or suppresses energy output — making allies stronger, dampening attacks, regulating the battlefield through authority. He made a choice. He will frame it as the right one until someone makes him stop. White Sentinel · Prism Savannah Anderson The Replacement Her power analyzes and refracts supernatural energy, producing weaker temporary copies of anything she is exposed to. She took Matthew because she wanted him and because it proved the hierarchy had already shifted. She did not consider that proof might have consequences. Red Sentinel · Redline · Heavy Hitter Gabrielle Dubois The Blow That Landed Converts physical exertion and impact into stored kinetic energy, then dumps it back as devastating force. She landed the blow that put Helena on the ground. She walked away from what that meant without looking back. Blue Sentinel · Vector Shift Frank Mercer The Silence Redirects existing force — never generates, only controls. He stayed silent during the betrayal because speaking would have redirected the stable life he and Viola had built inside the team. Silence, it turns out, is its own kind of force. Purple Sentinel · Violet Mirage Viola Samuels The Guilt Manipulates sensory information — removing people from perception, distorting distance, creating phantom sensations. She cares for Helena and carries real guilt for her silence. Guilt is easier to carry than action. She is learning that lesson slowly and badly. Before You Begin Author's Note This story deals heavily with themes of betrayal, infidelity, and emotional abandonment as foundational elements of the narrative. Before the story begins, Helena's romantic partner carried on concurrent affairs with two teammates; the team then collectively chose to leave her behind. This is not about humiliation as entertainment. It is about what happens to a woman who gave everything to people who threw her away. Helena is never a passive recipient of someone else's story. Her anger, her need, her body, and her choices remain hers. The people who betrayed her are not excused. The person who finds her is not automatically redeemed. If themes of betrayal and charged tension between enemies are not your preference, this story will not be a comfortable read. If they are — welcome. The wreckage is waiting. That was the first thing I registered — not suspicion, not dread, just the stupid, automatic observation that it shouldn't have been. I was carrying two coffees, because I still did things like that. Still made his oat milk latte at six in the morning like I was his girlfriend and not just the woman he found time for between press conferences. I pushed the door with my hip, already talking. *"Mattie, you forgot to lock up again, one of these days someone's going—"* I didn't finish the sentence. ![TheDoor](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a704562d761f09b1a515cb9.webp) I won't describe what I saw. I don't need to — I still see it whenever I close my eyes, and some things don't need narrating twice. What I'll say is this: the room told me everything in under two seconds. And the stillness that should have followed my voice in the doorway didn't come. Neither of them stopped. The coffee cups hit the floor. That sound, at least, made someone react — Savannah turned her head just enough to find me, her expression sweet and utterly unbothered, like I'd walked in on her reading a book she liked. "Aww," she said. "You can watch if you want. I don't mind sharing." Matthew didn't turn around. His voice, when it came, was the same one he used with me after — low, easy, already bored of the interruption. "Helena. Close the door." Like I was staff. Like I'd wandered into the wrong meeting. I stood there for nine seconds. I counted them, because counting was the only thing my body would let me do. Then I closed the door, walked to the training bay, and hit the reinforced wall until my knuckles split and bled pink light — and even then, I could still hear it. Not the sound from the room. The sound of a three-year Resonance link registering, for the first time, that it was being shared with someone else. ## II. The Week What followed wasn't a fight. It was worse — a slow, administrative erasure, dressed up as concern. Matthew became "worried" about my "emotional volatility," always in meetings where defending myself would only prove his point. He touched the back of my neck once in the hallway — a gesture that used to feel like being claimed and now felt like a brand pressed into cold skin. "You're still useful," he told me, calm and measured. "That's all that matters right now." ![HallTouch](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a704562d761f09b1a515cba.webp) Savannah started sitting closer to him at briefings, laughing at things that weren't funny, always angled so I could see. In the locker room, adjusting her choker in the mirror without looking at me: "You're still talking like you matter. Matthew doesn't need two of us, Helena. He already picked." ![Locker](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a704562d761f09b1a515cbb.webp) Gabrielle stopped meeting my eyes. When she did, there was something in it I couldn't name — not quite contempt, not quite hunger. "Still pretending you're better than this?" she said once, passing me in the corridor, gone before I could turn around. ![HallPass](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a704562d761f09b1a515cbc.webp) Frank and Viola went quiet in a different way. Viola touched my shoulder once, near the medical bay, mouth open like she wanted to say something true — and then Frank called her name from down the hall, and she let her hand drop and walked away without looking back. ![Viola](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a704569d761f09b1a51603b.webp) I stopped eating in the common area. Stopped sleeping through the night. Every time I reached for the team's Resonance network to check synchronization, I felt them pulling away — gradual, deliberate, fingers uncurling one at a time from a grip they no longer wanted. The links thinned a little more every day, until I was the only one still reaching for anything. I told myself it was stress. I told myself the mission would fix it. I was an idiot. ## III. The Kiss We deployed at 16:30. The fight was supposed to be routine — Spectrum Sentinels versus the one threat the media loved because you never ran a syndicate, never played by the rules we'd learned to counter. Matthew called it a "standard containment response," with that small, almost fond smile he used when he'd already decided how the story would end. Before we moved out, he found me at the staging line. He took my face in both hands — the way he used to, before Savannah, before any of it — and pressed his mouth to my forehead. Soft. Certain. The kind of gesture that used to mean *I've got you.* ![JudasKiss](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a70456ad761f09b1a51603d.webp) "Trust me," he said. "Like always." I believed him. God help me, some stubborn, humiliated part of me still wanted to. I linked the team — Gold amplifying, Blue redirecting, Purple obscuring, Red charging, White adapting — and for a few minutes it worked the way it always had, the way my power was built to make it work. You pushed us harder than the briefing accounted for, and I felt the strain in every link as I spread the load, held the synchronization together through nothing but will and the childish hope that if I performed well enough, Matthew would look at me again the way he used to. Then Gabrielle's strike caught me mid-link. She'd been charging for minutes — I felt the pressure building in the network before it hit — and she released it straight into my side while I was holding the thread for Blue's redirect. Something in my ribs gave. The links I'd been maintaining shattered as my concentration broke, and I hit the ground hard enough to taste blood. I reached out. Tried to reconnect to anyone. Matthew cut his link first. Deliberately. Coldly, like closing a file — the same hands that had held my face twenty minutes earlier now simply letting go. Savannah's dropped next, clean and surgical. Then Gabrielle's, not even bothering to mask it. I lay on the broken concrete and watched them go. Frank caught Viola's hand. Matthew didn't look back. ![Betrayed](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6a64d485aae01617ed4290fd/6a70456bd761f09b1a516063.webp) The last thing I saw before the dust swallowed them was Gabrielle's silhouette, red channels still blazing — and then there was nothing but settling rubble, the fading pulse of five severed connections, and you, standing over me.
