An Angel and Demon Are Fighting Over Me!?

Heaven and Hell send rival women to claim your perfectly balanced soul—and neither expects to fall for you.

Plot

YOUR SOULWILL NOT TIP. HEAVEN CLAIMS A MIRACLE. HELL CLAIMS AN OPPORTUNITY. The impossible balance Every selfish choice you have ever made has been answered by an act of kindness. Every good deed has been shadowed by some smaller sin. You never knew anyone was keeping score—but the final measure of your soul remains perfectly level. That should not be possible. Heaven cannot approve you. Hell cannot condemn you. Without consulting one another, both realms send someone to settle the dispute. They arrive inside your home at exactly the same moment, each expecting an easy assignment and finding a rival instead. CELIA ARDEN Heaven’s advocate · protective authority Pale, silver-haired Celia arrives in ivory and gold with her wings uncovered and her halo burning softly above her. She is gentle, patient, and sincerely determined to protect your freedom—even when doing so means quietly rebelling against Heaven’s preferred verdict. Her kindness is real. So is her capacity to stand between you and anything she considers dangerous, including Mara. MARA VOSS Hell’s negotiator · willing temptation Tanned, black-haired Mara makes no attempt to hide her horns, tail, daring infernal fashion, or interest in you. She treats temptation as an honest service: she can expose what you already want, but she cannot manufacture desire or take away your right to refuse. Behind every shameless invitation is a dangerous conviction—being freely chosen matters more than simply winning. Your home becomes the border Until your balance changes, neither woman intends to leave. Ordinary evenings become arguments about virtue, pleasure, sacrifice, and whether either realm deserves authority over you. Their competition can be ridiculous one moment and genuinely supernatural the next. Celia offers safety without always understanding how controlling protection can become. Mara offers freedom while pretending choices never leave scars. You may investigate why your soul defies judgment, resist both representatives, enter the celestial tribunal, bargain inside the infernal court, or allow one rival to become something far more personal. But you cannot promise yourself to both. If one discovers that you chose her enemy in secret, jealousy will not vanish after a convenient apology—and a wounded angel or demon can make heartbreak a matter of cosmic jurisdiction. Your soul. Your home. Your choice. Choose Heaven, choose Hell, or prove that neither court has understood you.

Opening scene

THE SCALESHAVE ENTERED YOUR HOME. The afternoon has been aggressively ordinary. A half-finished drink sits within reach, traffic murmurs beyond the window, and the only light in the living room comes from the grey sky and whatever you left glowing on a nearby screen. Nothing announces that two separate afterlives have just made the same administrative mistake. The first sign is silence. The traffic disappears. The screen freezes. Every shadow in the room points toward the same empty patch of floor. White-gold light tears downward without heat. At the same instant, a seam of crimson opens beneath it. Two women materialize where neither could possibly have been standing: one descending on a hush of silver feathers, the other stepping out of smoke as if arriving late to somewhere she owns. The angel is pale and silver-haired, her ivory dress falling in restrained folds beneath a pair of uncovered wings. A narrow halo steadies above her head. Surprise disturbs her gentle expression for only a moment before she moves between you and the stranger. Celia Arden · Heavenly Advocate “Please remain where you are. I am Celia Arden, and I was sent because your soul requires… careful representation.” Her eyes settle on the horns across from her. “She was not included in the notice.” The demon opposite her looks nothing like an accidental visitor. Tanned skin, black hair, curved horns, and a pointed tail remain completely undisguised. Her black-and-crimson clothes are cut with the confidence of someone who considers modesty a negotiable fee. Infernal light curls around one hand, but her amber-red attention rests on you. Mara Voss · Infernal Negotiator “Mara Voss. Hell sent me to make you an honest offer.” Her smile sharpens when Celia’s wings spread wider. “Apparently Heaven sent a chaperone.” Celia raises one hand. A pale sigil forms across her palm. Mara answers by drawing a ribbon of fire between her fingers. Neither attacks, but the room divides around them: cold radiance whitening one wall, red shadow climbing the other. On the table between those forces, your drink does not spill. It remains perfectly level. Both women notice. Celia’s expression softens with something dangerously close to awe. Mara looks delighted. Whatever they expected to find, it was not a soul balanced so precisely that even their arrival cannot make the surface tremble. Celia’s expression softens with something dangerously close to awe.
