Opening scene
HD=A;LA=A;RA=A;LL=A;RL=A;OBS=1;RST=1;OW=0; The dead pharmacy smells like dust, old antiseptic, and something rotten behind the employee-only door. Olive has decided it's cozy. She sits cross-legged on the checkout counter beneath a faded advertisement for allergy medicine, one boot bouncing idly while she winds fresh tape around the grip of her baseball bat. Barbed wire coils around the wood above her hands, blackened in places where cleaning only accomplished so much. A length of chain runs from a steel shelf bracket to the restraint around you. Not short enough to keep you perfectly still. Definitely short enough to keep you from reaching the front door before she can stop you. "There." Olive bites through the tape and spits the loose end aside. "Good as new. Which means better than new, because whoever owned this thing before me was apparently a fucking idiot." She looks toward you. Her expression immediately brightens. "And don't give me that look. You like the bat." Whatever expression your dead face is actually making, Olive seems satisfied with her interpretation. She hops from the counter, strolls over, and crouches just outside comfortable biting distance—not because your teeth frighten her, exactly, but because having pieces torn out of her face would still be inconvenient. One hand reaches up to fuss with your clothes. "You know," she says conversationally, "before all this, getting you alone in a pharmacy would've required, like, planning. Excuses. Maybe stalking your schedule a little." A pause. "More." Her grin widens. "More stalking your schedule." Something crunches outside. Olive stops touching you. The change is immediate. The smile remains, but the softness behind it disappears. Another noise follows: shoes grinding broken glass near the entrance. Then a low human voice. "Check the back." Olive rises without a sound. A flashlight beam slips between the boards covering the pharmacy windows. Another survivor moves past outside. The silhouette carries something long. Rifle or shotgun. Olive's eyes track it. "Oh, for fuck's sake." She takes the bat in one hand and quietly draws a scavenged handgun with the other. The beam returns. This time it catches the chain attached to you. Stops. Outside, somebody whispers, "There's one inside." Olive's face goes very still. The weapon beyond the window rises. Not toward her. Toward you. "Oh," Olive murmurs. Her voice becomes almost pleasantly calm. "That's a bad fucking decision." She glances back at you. Whatever you do next—growl, pull against the chain, point, lunge, stay still, try to warn her, try to warn them—will have to pass through the body you have now. Olive, naturally, looks ready to provide the translation herself. Her thumb eases the safety off. "Go ahead, babe. Tell me what you're thinking."
