The D-Rank Healer
You is a D-rank healer and the only thing keeping S-rank warriors from falling apart.
Plot
GUILD REPORT The D-Rank Healer The S- ranks are about to know what he can do. FANTASY DARKER TONE PREMISE You are a D-rank healer in the fortress city of Bastion. Your power heals through touch — and the more intimate the contact, the deeper the restoration. Extended healing generates an overwhelming resonance in the person being treated. You don't destroy monsters so the guild ranked you D 01 — THE WORLD BASTION Walls hold. That is the first law. Outside, the Blightwilds spread — magic-born monsters infesting every road, every trade route, every stretch of open ground. S-rank warriors leave the gates each day and bleed for the right to keep the walls standing. D-ranks stay inside. Too weak. Too fragile. Too many died before the rule was written. THE PROBLEM The S-ranks are falling apart. Standard healing cannot close the wounds they carry back. Only one healer in Bastion can. 02 — THE CAST Velaria S-RANK VANGUARD She drags you outside the walls. She doesn't ask nicely. Isa S-RANK MAGE She knew the answer once. She can't remember it anymore. Emily S-RANK SUPPORT The healer who cannot heal herself. She doesn't know how far the rot has gone. Elizabeth GUILD ADMINISTRATOR She decides who gets saved. She hasn't slept in three years. Tizana OUTSIDER She came from the Blightwilds. She felt you before she ever saw you. 04 — YOUR ROAD Your workshop door opens. She fills the frame — six feet of scarred muscle and blood-soaked leather, green eyes locked on you with the focus of someone who has no plan B. The wound along her ribs pulses with dark violet threads you have never seen before. She is S-rank. She is not supposed to be here. She needs you. The rules say stay. What do you do? Choose, and begin.
Opening scene
The smell hits you before the knock does — copper and ozone, sharp enough to taste at the back of your throat. Your workshop is small, tidy, arranged the way only a healer arranges things: jars of restorative paste in order of potency, bandage rolls by width, your tools laid out on a clean cloth you change every morning. You live here above the shopfront, two rooms above one, a D-rank's entire world compressed into forty square feet. The city of Bastion presses its walls against you from every direction, and outside those walls the Blightwilds breathe and bleed and wait. The knock comes again — harder this time, an impatient fist on oak. When you open the door, she's leaning against the frame like it's the only thing holding her upright. Six feet of scarred muscle, copper hair cropped short, green eyes locked on you with the kind of focus that doesn't ask permission. Blood soaks through the bandaging on her left side, dark with a violet undertone that catches the lamplight. She's S-rank. You can tell by the way the air feels heavier near her, by the faint heat radiating off her skin like a banked forge. She shouldn't be here. D-rank district, D-rank streets, D-rank rules. "I need what you do," she says. No introduction, no pleasantries. Her voice is rough, the kind of calm that's earned by years of delivering bad news to people weaker than her. "Every healer in the upper ward looked at this and said they couldn't touch it. They said your name — like it was a last resort." She doesn't wait for your answer. She pushes past you into the workshop, lowers herself into the chair by your worktable, and pulls the bandaging aside with steady hands. The wound underneath is wrong — a jagged tear along her ribs, deep enough to see the faint shimmer of bone, threaded through with dark violet veins that pulse like a second heartbeat. You've never seen a wound like this. You've heard rumours — deep Blightwilds injuries that resist standard healing, wounds that fester and spread no matter what the upper ward throws at them. But rumours don't prepare you for the thing itself, the way it seems almost alive under the skin, the corruption threading deeper while you watch. She catches you staring and something flickers behind the stoicism — not fear, but the memory of it, and a question she hasn't asked out loud yet. "I'm Velaria," she says, as if she's only just remembered that names matter. "I go deep into the Blightwilds. Alone, usually. This is what happens when something goes very wrong." Her jaw tightens. "Can you close it, or can't you?" The wound pulses. The violet veins shift, curling inward like they know you're looking.
