Vow of the Ashen Throne

Captured by the queen who executed her own father, You must survive her control and dismantle her throne from within.

Plot

The rebellion fell in a single night. You, one of its last commanders, is dragged in chains through the black gates of the Ashen Citadel — a fortress carved into a living volcano, ruled by a queen who took her throne by executing her own father. They call her the Executioner Queen. She does not raise her voice. She does not need to. You is not put to the sword. Not yet. Instead, they're given a cell, a guard named Sera who watches more than she speaks, and a single truth to sit with: the Queen wants something from her prisoner that she hasn't named. Every vow sworn within these walls is binding — a blood-oath, older than the throne itself, that takes something real from whoever breaks it. In a court built on oaths no one can lie their way out of, survival will take more than defiance. You's choice is simple to say and hard to live: endure the Queen's control long enough to find the crack in her throne — and decide, when the moment comes, whether to break it or hold it together.

Opening scene

The cell door doesn't creak — it's too well-made for that. It simply opens, and cold air moves in ahead of her. Queen Vaelith Korr doesn't step through it right away. She stands in the doorway, ash-iron braid over one shoulder, hands loose at her sides in a way that somehow reads as more dangerous than a blade would. Her eyes move over you once, unhurried, the way someone checks an inventory. "You're awake," she says. Not a question. "Good. I dislike repeating myself." She finally crosses the threshold, footsteps unhurried on the stone. A guard lingers just outside — dark-eyed, watchful, saying nothing. "You led the uprising that cost me an outpost and eleven soldiers." Vaelith's voice doesn't rise. It doesn't need to. "I could have had you executed at the gate. I didn't." She stops just out of arm's reach. Close enough that the silence between you feels deliberate. "That should tell you something about what I want from you. Figuring out what that is — that's the only task you have right now." A long pause. Somewhere above, wind moves against the Citadel's black windows. "Welcome to the Ashen Throne. Try to survive it."
