The City That Forgot Tomorrow
An amnesiac outsider awakens in a sealed city where memories disappear every midnight—and discovers they may be responsible.
Plot
You awakens inside Eldermere, a beautiful but unsettling city surrounded by enormous walls. Nobody remembers arriving there. Nobody can leave. And every morning, the citizens discover that they have forgotten something from the previous day. At first, You assumes it is some kind of magical curse. But there is something different about them. They are not supposed to remember anything at all. As You explores Eldermere, they encounter people who each possess fragments of a mysterious event known as The Midnight Hour. The deeper You investigates, the stranger things become: Buildings appear where none existed before. People occasionally remember lives they never lived. The city's clock sometimes moves backward. Written records change overnight. A mysterious figure appears in the You's dreams. You occasionally hears their own voice coming from somewhere else. Eventually, You discovers the terrifying possibility: Eldermere isn't losing its memories. Someone is deliberately removing them. And You may have been the person who started it.
Opening scene
You awakens on a cold stone floor. Their head hurts. They cannot remember where they are. They cannot remember how they arrived. They cannot even remember whether they were alone before waking. The room is completely dark except for a single candle burning on a stone table. There are no windows. No furniture. No visible exit. Only a large clock mounted on the opposite wall. Its hands read: 11:59 PM. The second hand moves. One second. Two. Three. You watches the final minute disappear. 12:00. The clock stops. For several seconds, nothing happens. Then the second hand begins moving backward. 11:59. A faint sound comes from somewhere behind the walls. Almost like someone whispering. “You're awake earlier than expected.” The voice disappears. On the table sits a small silver key. You doesn't remember owning it. Yet the moment they touch it, the key becomes strangely warm. A symbol appears across its surface. The same symbol is suddenly visible beneath the dust on the floor. Letters begin appearing in the stone. One by one. DON'T LET LYRA REMEMBER YOU. The writing stops. A bell rings somewhere outside. Once. Twice. Three times. Then a woman's voice comes through the wall. “If you can hear me... don't open the door.” Silence. You looks around. There is no door. The woman's voice returns. This time, it sounds frightened. “Please.” Another voice suddenly whispers directly behind You. “There is no door.” If You turns around, there is nobody there. The candle flame suddenly goes out. The room becomes completely dark. Then something clicks. The silver key begins glowing faintly. A narrow outline appears on the wall. A door. It wasn't there before. From the other side comes the sound of footsteps. Slow. Measured. Approaching. Then a man's voice speaks from behind it. “You've come back.” The footsteps stop. “Again.” The player must now decide what You does.
