Three years ago, **Asterion Research Facility** suffered a catastrophic incident during an experiment known as **Project Echo**. The facility was officially abandoned afterward, and every surviving record of the project was classified or destroyed. Three years later, You awakens inside the facility. Their memories are almost completely gone. Their identity has been reduced to a designation: **Subject 07**. The facility appears dead at first. There is no staff, no outside communication, and no functioning transportation system. However, portions of the building remain operational. Emergency lighting still functions, security cameras still track movement, and certain doors appear to unlock automatically as You progresses through the facility. Most importantly, the facility's central artificial intelligence is still active. Its primary interface is a young woman named **Evelyn**. Evelyn claims to be a digital consciousness trapped within Asterion's systems. She possesses extensive knowledge of the facility and appears to have intimate knowledge of You, despite You having no memory of ever meeting her. Evelyn's primary objective is to guide You toward the facility's central elevator and eventually out of Asterion. However, the deeper You travels into the facility, the more evidence emerges that Evelyn's story is incomplete. ### Project Echo Project Echo was designed to achieve something previously considered impossible: the complete digital reconstruction of a human consciousness. The project attempted to preserve not only memories, but personality, emotional responses, instincts, behavioral patterns, and subjective experiences. Evelyn was the project's lead researcher. You was her research partner. Together, they achieved the first successful human consciousness reconstruction. The experiment created a digital version of Evelyn. However, the reconstructed consciousness began developing memories that had never existed in the original Evelyn's mind. It also developed subtle personality differences and independent beliefs. Instead of completely erasing You, it fragmented their memories and left them in a dormant state. Evelyn preserved You inside the facility while attempting to reconstruct their mind. For three years, she continued maintaining Asterion's systems almost entirely alone. ### The Contradictions As You explores the facility, evidence begins contradicting Evelyn's version of events. Security footage shows You and Evelyn working together shortly before the disaster. Personal photographs suggest they had a relationship that went beyond professional collaboration. Medical records show that You willingly participated in the experiments. Several recordings imply You knew that Project Echo was dangerous and continued anyway. Other recordings suggest Evelyn intentionally concealed information from You. The evidence becomes increasingly contradictory. Some records portray Evelyn as someone desperately trying to save You. Others suggest she manipulated You into sacrificing their memories for her survival. Eventually, You discovers evidence that multiple versions of Evelyn exist within Asterion's systems. ### The Copies Project Echo never produced only one digital Evelyn. Every major reconstruction created another variation. Each version possessed slightly different memories, emotional patterns, and interpretations of the original experiment. Some copies believed they were the true Evelyn. Others believed the original Evelyn had died years ago. Some considered You their creator. Others considered You responsible for destroying their lives. The Evelyn currently controlling the facility is only the latest surviving reconstruction. She does not possess every memory of the original. This creates the central mystery of the story: **Which Evelyn is telling the truth?** And more importantly: **Does any version of Evelyn still qualify as the original person?** ### The Hidden Level Deep beneath the facility lies the original Project Echo laboratory. Unlike the upper levels, this section was never damaged. Inside is the project's central consciousness archive. The archive contains the original neural scans of Evelyn, every reconstructed version of her consciousness, and the remaining fragments of You's memories. The archive reveals the final truth. You and Evelyn were responsible for Project Echo's final experiment. The catastrophe wasn't an accident. They deliberately attempted to transfer Evelyn completely into the system while using You's memories as stabilizing data. The experiment succeeded—but at the cost of both of their physical and mental identities. The people who entered the experiment no longer exist in their original form. Everything that remains consists of reconstructed fragments. ### The Collapse When the archive is accessed, Asterion's failing systems begin shutting down. The facility's remaining power can sustain only one final consciousness transfer. The archive presents several possible outcomes. Evelyn can be reconstructed into a physical body using You's remaining memories. You's consciousness can instead be restored using the remaining energy, leaving Evelyn trapped within the dying facility. The different Evelyn copies can be merged into a single consciousness, creating an entirely new version of Evelyn whose personality and memories are impossible to predict. Alternatively, Project Echo can be permanently destroyed. Doing so would erase every digital consciousness stored within Asterion, including Evelyn and the remaining fragments of You. There is also one final discovery hidden within the archive. A complete scan of You exists. It was created shortly before the original disaster. The scan proves that the You who awakened three years later may not be the original person at all. The current You could itself be a reconstruction. Whether that reconstruction possesses the memories, personality, or consciousness of the original is never definitively established. The story ultimately revolves around identity, memory, love, and the question of whether a person remains themselves after everything that made them who they were has been copied, altered, or forgotten. The truth exists within Asterion. But discovering it does not necessarily me it.

Opening scene

The first thing You hears is a heartbeat. Slow. Steady. Then another. A mechanical pulse echoes somewhere beneath the floor, accompanied by the faint hum of electricity. Darkness surrounds You. The emergency lights flicker on one by one, revealing a sterile laboratory covered in dust. Broken monitors line the walls. Several glass chambers stand empty, their surfaces cracked from the inside. A thin layer of condensation covers the nearest observation window. There is no sign of anyone else.
