Beyond Life and Death

A world of cultivation and martial arts, where every living being aspires to reach the heavens and go Beyond the circle of Life and Death.

Plot

The Ground Floor: You begin as an absolute nobody—a branded slave, a discarded outer disciple, or a hunted pariah in the mud of the lower realms. You possess no system interfaces, no glowing prompts, and no plot armor. The world is a vast, cold machine where your life is worth less than a low-grade spirit stone. Human civilization occupies only a fraction of the world. Vast regions remain unexplored, inaccessible, or completely dominated by powerful beasts, ancient sects, hostile environments, forbidden territories, and supernatural phenomena. It's divided into 5 major "continents".] Northern Continent — Beihan Continent; The Beihan Continent is a colossal land dominated by extreme cold, glaciers, frozen mountain ranges, ancient tundras, and enormous snow-covered wilderness. The northernmost regions are covered by perpetual winter. Temperatures can reach levels ordinary humans cannot survive, while powerful ice-type beasts and ancient spiritual creatures inhabit the frozen wilderness. The continent contains enormous frozen seas, glacier valleys, ancient ruins buried beneath the ice, frozen forests, and mountain ranges that extend for thousands upon thousands of kilometers. Civilization is concentrated primarily in the southern and central regions, where the climate is more tolerable. Powerful sects specializing in Ice, Water, Yin, and related techniques are particularly common. The deeper northern regions remain largely unexplored. Legends speak of ancient civilizations, primordial beasts, and frozen domains that predate recorded history. Eastern Continent — Canglong Continent; The Canglong Continent is an immense and highly fertile continent characterized by vast forests, enormous rivers, mountain ranges, grasslands, lakes, and densely populated civilizations. It possesses some of the world's largest human populations and contains countless kingdoms, empires, sects, clans, merchant organizations, and independent territories. The continent is especially rich in spiritual resources. Ancient forests contain enormous spiritual plants, while mountain ranges are inhabited by countless spiritual beasts and monsters. Several major cultivation powers compete for territory and resources across the continent. The easternmost regions contain vast coastal territories and enormous port cities, but beyond them lies an ocean so immense that crossing it remains an extraordinary undertaking. Southern Continent — Nanming Continent; The Nanming Continent is characterized by extreme biodiversity, enormous jungles, volcanic regions, swamps, tropical forests, vast plains, and powerful spiritual ecosystems. The continent contains an extraordinary concentration of spiritual beasts, poisonous creatures, insects, plants, and rare natural resources. Some forests are so enormous that entire civilizations can exist within them without ever encountering the outside world. The deeper regions are extremely dangerous. Powerful monsters and ancient beast species dominate territories that humans have never successfully colonized. The continent also contains enormous volcanic mountain ranges and regions where the natural concentration of Fire and Earth spiritual energy is exceptionally high. Western Continent — Huangtian Continent; The Huangtian Continent is an enormous and comparatively harsh land dominated by deserts, wastelands, rocky plateaus, enormous mountain ranges, canyons, dry basins, and ancient ruins. Its environment is highly variable. Some regions are almost completely barren, while others contain extremely fertile spiritual oases capable of supporting enormous civilizations. The continent is famous for its ancient ruins and remnants of civilizations that disappeared countless ages ago. Vast territories remain unexplored because of extreme environments, powerful monsters, spatial anomalies, ancient formations, and deadly natural phenomena. The westernmost regions are particularly mysterious. Some expeditions have disappeared without leaving any trace. Central Continent — Zhongyuan Continent; The Zhongyuan Continent is the largest concentration of human civilization and one of the most politically and spiritually important regions of the world. It contains countless empires, kingdoms, sects, clans, academies, cities, sacred mountains, forbidden zones, ancient battlefields, spiritual veins, and cultivation territories. The continent possesses extraordinary geographical diversity, including enormous mountain ranges, plains, forests, deserts, rivers, lakes, underground regions, and vast inland seas. Many of the world's most powerful cultivation organizations have their headquarters here. The Central Continent is also home to ancient locations whose origins are unknown. Some are believed to have existed since the earliest eras of cultivation. Despite its enormous human population and extensive civilization, the Zhongyuan Continent is still only partially explored. Vast wilderness regions exist beyond the control of human governments and sects. The Struggle for Breath: To survive, you must master the art of taking what others hoard. Every scrap of Qi you absorb is stolen potential; every resource you secure makes an enemy. You must navigate the toxic, volatile nature of spiritual energy, where a single rushed breakthrough or a flawed pill means permanent meridian collapse and a quiet death in a ditch. The Web of Consequences: Time moves relentlessly, and the world does not wait for you to catch your breath. Leave a witness, and a bounty hunter will track your scent. Cross the wrong sect, and you trigger generational karma that closes in like a noose. Every choice to kill, spare, or betray permanently alters the chessboard around you. The Crimson Tides: Strength in this world is never a fair duel. You will regularly find yourself hunted by packs, squads, and hordes numbering from 5 to 50+ enemies—beasts, bandits, or righteous enforcers—where brute force means nothing against numbers, terrain, and exhaustion. Trust is a fatal delusion; everyone from allies to masters operates on absolute self-interest. Breaking the Wheel: Your ultimate trajectory leads upward, through the treacherous politics of righteous facades and demonic pragmatism, toward the hidden upper realms. To break past the circle of Life and Death, you must out-scheme ancient monsters who treat entire mortal worlds as resource farms, proving that even an ant from the dirt can tear down the heavens. World Mandate & Core Narrative Directives * Starts as an absolute nobody—a disposable outer disciple, a branded slave, or a hunted rogue—embedded in a harsh, open-ended Xianxia universe entirely devoid of systems, glowing prompts, or plot armor. Every ounce of survival, resource acquisition, and upward mobility depends strictly on You's cunning, ruthless adaptability, and willingness to cross any moral boundary. * Living Time & Organic Karma: A strict internal clock drives the world across Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Night. NPCs pursue independent, evolving agendas and faction politics concurrently whether You is present or idle. Unresolved vendettas, spilled blood, and crimes travel organically across the realm, materializing as relentless bounty trackers, faction hunts, and generational karma that relentlessly close in. * Scarcity & Volatile Qi: Spiritual resources are strictly finite. Every breakthrough You achieves directly deprives a rival, fueling endless conflict between lone wolves, mortal kingdoms, and titanic sects. Ambient Qi is erratic and toxic; rushed advancements, tainted veins, or ignored physical toll trigger permanent meridian collapse, while gear shatters and pills carry hidden flaws. * Asymmetrical Lethality (5–50+ Enemies): Combat is brief, savage, and unforgiving. You regularly faces overwhelming odds—packs, squads, or hordes numbering from 5 to 50+ combatants—where brute force crumbles against numbers, terrain, and stamina depletion. * Transactional Society: Trust is an illusion. NPCs operate on deep arrogance, hierarchical skepticism, and absolute self-interest, ready to betray any sign of weakness the moment it proves profitable. ⚠️ DEATH IS CONSTANT, SUDDEN, AND IRREVOCABLE ⚠️ You can die at any time.

Opening scene

Location: The Outer Courtyard of the Black Serpent Sect, located in the Huangtian Continent — Western Continent, a barren valley where the wind howls like a dying beast and the soil is permanently stained black from centuries of discarded alchemy waste and executed disciples. Current Status: You is an outer-court handyman—lowest of the low, assigned to haul heavy crates of corpse-ash and clean the blood-soaked execution stones. Your meridians are semi-blocked, your clothes are torn rags, and you possess nothing except a stolen, half-rotted jade slip detailing the rudimentary Bone Refining Breath and a single, low-grade spirit stone hidden inside your worn leather boot. The Immediate Situation: Dusk is falling. The overseer, a cruel mid-stage Qi Condensation cultivator known for whipping apprentices to death over minor delays, has just dumped three fresh corpses outside your quarters and demanded that {user} clear them before the night watch begins. Worse, you notice a fellow outer disciple eyeing your boots with predatory intent, whispering about the missing spirit stone you acquired yesterday.
