ASTRALIS THE WORLD BENEATH TWELVE SIGNS ✦ ♈ ♉ ♊ ♋ ♌ ♍ ♎ ♏ ♐ ♑ ♒ ♓ ✦ In the celestial realm of Astralis, where the heavens themselves are etched into the souls of its people, every life is bound to one of the Twelve Signs of the Zodiac. A Sign is not a mere emblem — it is the essence of a person's nature, temperament, and the conduit through which they command one of the world's four fundamental forces: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Magic does not exist here. No spells are woven, no supernatural beings are summoned, and no divine power is granted to mortals. Yet, there is the Astrum — a natural energy born from the stars, flowing through every living body like an unseen river of light. Every person possesses Astrum. Only its strength, nature, and expression differ. While most of Astralis's inhabitants live in accordance with the ancient traditions of their Signs, unsettling phenomena are beginning to ripple across the world. Stars are vanishing from the sky. One of the three moons is slowly drifting from its orbit. And ruins are surfacing in distant lands — structures whose construction predates civilization itself. At the same time, individuals are emerging who possess a power that defies all known natural law: the ability to wield two elements. To some, they are proof of humanity's evolution. To others, a harbinger of doom. And to the mighty Astral Empire, they are a threat to be hunted and eradicated. In Astralis, there is no single grand narrative. There are hundreds of stories — travelers, soldiers, explorers, smugglers, astronomers, mercenaries, nobles, scholars, priests, criminals, and ordinary souls swept into events far greater than themselves. It is among them that You's story begins. THE WORLD — ASTRALIS Astralis is a vast world of sprawling continents, endless seas, scorching deserts, frozen regions, and towering mountain ranges. Civilization is divided between powerful empires, independent cities, ancient religious orders, and organizations that operate beyond the knowledge of ordinary people. Above the world, three moons dominate the night sky. ☾ LUNARIS — WATER The largest of the three moons. Its light amplifies Astrum activity in those connected to Water. During a Lunaris full moon, seas and rivers can behave in ways that defy conventional explanation — Water users often describe feeling unusually aware, as if the moon itself were pulling at their Astrum. ☾ VULKAR — FIRE The red moon. Its appearance has historically coincided with periods of war, rebellion, and political upheaval. Fire users often experience heightened Astrum activity beneath Vulkar's light — whether the moon influences human behavior or merely coincides with it remains a subject of debate. ☾ ASTER — THE UNBOUND The smallest and most mysterious of the three. Unlike Lunaris and Vulkar, Aster has no direct elemental association. Astronomers believe it somehow maintains equilibrium between the other celestial bodies — but its orbit should be impossible. Aster periodically deviates from the path predicted by conventional astronomy. No one knows why. THE FOUR ELEMENTS The four elements are not forms of magic. They are natural manifestations of Astrum. Every person is born with an affinity toward one of them. 🜂 FIRE ENERGY · WILLPOWER · PASSION · TRANSFORMATION Fire users can strengthen their muscles, generate and control flames, raise the temperature of objects, create short-lived explosions, and use heat to accelerate their movements. Fire is exceptionally powerful but difficult to control. 🜄 WATER EMOTION · MEMORY · ADAPTATION · CHANGE Water users can control existing water, create steam, manipulate ice, use water defensively, and sense movement through moisture. Water's most unusual ability is its connection to memory — experienced users can sometimes perceive traces of emotions or events left within water. This is not mind reading. It is closer to finding an imprint left behind by the past. 🜃 EARTH STABILITY · STRENGTH · PATIENCE · DETERMINATION Earth users can strengthen their bodies, manipulate rock, create barriers, sense tremors, and influence minerals. The most experienced Earth users can fight almost without moving, turning the battlefield itself into their weapon. 🜁 AIR FREEDOM · SPEED · PERCEPTION · CHANGE Air users can manipulate airflow, increase their speed, make tremendous leaps, create gusts, and sense movement through changes in pressure. The finest Air warriors are nearly impossible to strike. THE TWELVE SIGNS A Sign does not dictate personality. It simply shapes natural tendencies, instincts, and the way a person's Astrum most easily develops. ♈ ARIES FIRE Impulsive, courageous, direct. Natural warriors. ♉ TAURUS EARTH Patient, resilient, protective of stability. Exceptional physical endurance. ♊ GEMINI AIR Curious, flexible, intelligent. Masters of adaptation. ♋ CANCER WATER Caring, emotional, loyal. Exceptional defensive abilities. ♌ LEO FIRE Charismatic, ambitious, confident. Natural leaders. ♍ VIRGO EARTH Charismatic, ambitious, confident. Natural leaders. ♎ LIBRA AIR Diplomatic, composed, balanced. Masters of redirection and counterattacks. ♏ SCORPIO WATER Intense, mysterious, patient. Specialists in precise Water techniques. ♐ SAGITTARIUS FIRE Independent, curious, adventurous. Exceptional long-range fighters. ♑ CAPRICORN EARTH Disciplined, ambitious, composed. Specialists in prolonged combat. ♒ AQUARIUS AIR Independent, unconventional, unpredictable. Masters of unusual Air techniques. ♓ PISCES WATER Intuitive, sensitive, imaginative. Unusually strong connection to Astrum and the Moons. DUALITY Duality is one of the rarest phenomena in Astralis. Approximately one person in several tens of thousands is born capable of wielding two elements. Duality does not automatically mean greater strength. A Dualist may have two mediocre abilities rather than one exceptional one — but the combinations themselves can produce unusual techniques. Earth + Water May create mud, ice, mineral formations, or manipulate underground water. Fire + Air Can produce extremely fast and destructive attacks. Water + Air May create fog, pressure-based attacks, or manipulate moisture over large areas. Earth + Fire Can manipulate heated stone, molten minerals, or create powerful defensive structures. Duality is poorly understood. The Astral Empire officially classifies it as an Astrum Disorder. Unofficially, however, the Empire has spent decades studying Dualists. Some are recruited. Some are imprisoned. And some simply disappear. THE FIVE GREAT POWERS The world is not united under one government. Five major powers influence the course of Astralis — and they do not agree on the nature of Astrum, the Moons, or the disappearing stars. I. ASTRAL EMPIRE Order and Control The largest centralized power in Astralis. It believes civilization can only survive through strict regulation — every citizen is registered by Sign, elemental affinity, birthplace, and Astrum potential. Its greatest fear is uncontrolled Astrum, which is why Dualists are considered particularly dangerous. The Empire has begun investigating the newly emerging ruins, claiming they pose a danger to civilization. In reality, Imperial scholars have discovered references to the Thirteenth Sign within them — and have ordered all such discoveries destroyed. II. CELESTIAL CONCLAVE Knowledge and Truth An international organization of astronomers, historians, and scholars studying the relationship between Astrum and the heavens. Unlike the Empire, it believes knowledge should belong to no single government. The Conclave has discovered that the disappearing stars are not random — there is a pattern, and it corresponds with the locations of the newly discovered ruins. Some members believe the ruins are warnings. Others believe they are instructions. III. CHILDREN OF THE MOON Mystery and Faith A spiritual tradition centered on the three Moons, maintaining ancient temples and remote settlements across Astralis. They believe the stars and Moons are connected to human existence in ways science cannot yet explain. Their oldest texts speak of The Silence of the Stars — a celestial event marking a period of great change. Whether it is a warning or an awakening, even the Children disagree. IV. FREE CITIES CONFEDERATION Freedom and Trade A collection of independent cities that refuse Imperial rule, each governing itself. The most culturally diverse region of Astralis, its philosophy is simple: your Sign may shape you, but it does not define you. Several newly discovered ruins lie near Confederation territory, and treasure hunters now race the Empire to claim them — fueling growing conflict. V. THE ASTRALS Shadow Hunting The most mysterious organization in Astralis, operating in the shadows with no known headquarters. Its members hunt individuals whose Astrum becomes dangerously unstable — particularly Dualists. To the public, the Astrals are little more than a frightening rumor. To those who have encountered them, they are very real. They know more about Duality than almost anyone — and even their own members disagree about whether Dualists should be eliminated, imprisoned, or protected. THE THIRTEENTH SIGN Among the ruins emerging across Astralis, archaeologists have discovered something impossible: references to thirteen Zodiac Signs. The first twelve are familiar. The thirteenth is not. Its symbol appears differently in different ruins, but it always occupies a position outside the traditional Zodiac cycle. No surviving culture remembers its name. No living person bears its mark. And no modern Astrum theory can explain why it exists. What does the Thirteenth Sign actually mean? No one knows. That is important. It is not confirmed to be a real Sign. It may have been: an ancient Zodiac that was abandoned a symbol representing something other than a human Sign a forgotten civilization's interpretation of the heavens a warning or simply a misunderstanding repeated across generations The Empire claims it is dangerous knowledge. The Conclave wants to investigate it. The Children of the Moon believe it may have spiritual significance. The Confederation mostly wants to sell whatever artifacts can be recovered. And the Astrals appear to already know something about it. They refuse to say what. THE SILENCE OF THE STARS This is the central mystery connecting the world's various conflicts. For years, astronomers have observed stars gradually disappearing from the night sky. They do not explode. They do not fade. They simply become absent. At first, only a handful vanished. Then more followed. And every missing star corresponds to an ancient astronomical record. The newly emerging ruins appear to be connected to the same phenomenon. Something existed in Astralis long before modern civilization. Something that knew about the Twelve Signs. Something that may have known about the Thirteenth. And whatever it was... it may be returning. ✦ ✦ ✦ THE BEGINNING You does not have to be a Dualist. They do not have to be important. They do not have to be chosen by prophecy. They may simply be an ordinary person whose Sign has not yet fully awakened, an adventurer looking for work, a traveler, a soldier, a scholar, a merchant, or someone trying to escape their past. Their story begins when circumstances bring them into contact with the growing disturbances surrounding Astralis. Perhaps they discover an ancient ruin. Perhaps they encounter an Astral. Perhaps they become involved in an Imperial investigation. Perhaps they simply happen to be in the wrong place when something goes wrong. Their Sign, element, personality, relationships, and allegiance are left entirely to the player. The larger mysteries of Astralis exist around them. The player does not need to be the center of the world. They simply have the opportunity to decide where their story leads. And somewhere above them, the stars continue to disappear. ✦ ASTRALIS ✦
Opening scene
“The Awakening Ceremony” The first thing You remembers is the sound of bells. Not church bells. Astral bells. Deep, resonant tones that travel through the entire city. Today is the day You has been waiting for. The Awakening. Every child of Astralis eventually reaches the age when their Astrum becomes strong enough for their Zodiac Sign to reveal itself. Until then, a person possesses Astrum, but cannot properly channel an element. Some awaken early. Others take years. A few never awaken at all. You has always been one of the latter possibilities. Today, however, that uncertainty ends. They stand inside an ancient observatory surrounded by twelve enormous stone symbols. Representatives from the Empire, scholars from the Celestial Conclave, and relatives of the candidates watch from the surrounding balconies. At the center of the chamber stands an Astrum Resonator. It doesn't create magic. It simply reacts to the Astrum already present within a person's body. One by one, the candidates step forward. Fire. Earth. Air. Water. Each awakening is different. Then it is You's turn. They place their hand against the Resonator.
