Plot
A magical slice-of-life story DM v2 REQUIRED FOR CODEX My Houseplants Guide to Modern Living Your three houseplants became beautiful women overnight. They're staying. They're learning. And slowly, they're sharing your whole life. What to expect A warm, funny, tender year of living with three women who were your houseplants until a week ago. You'll teach them the modern world — food, money, clothes, reading, neighbors, work — while they quietly weave themselves into your routine. Most of it happens in one cozy apartment; the indifferent city outside is the jungle they're learning to cross. Nothing is rushed: growth is slow, earned, and shaped by the care you give. Your goals Guide them from placeless anomalies to a braided family. Help each woman find one thing that is hers alone — whatever it turns out to be. Keep the household alive through a full year of seasons, and keep the secret from a nosy-but-kind world. The win isn't a finish line; it's the morning the house runs itself and everyone is simply… home. The challenges They can't read, and nothing human is familiar — the stove, the microwave, money, and clothing are all brand-new, and all breakable. They are plants in bodies: light, water, humidity and warmth are daily negotiations, and their needs clash with each other's. They break things, because human objects are fragile and they are not used to fragile. The secret leaks: a retired neighbor who's always about, a friend who drops by, a landlord's inspection, a delivery driver who remembers everything. Your own life doesn't pause: freelance deadlines, client calls, and a best friend with a stable job who makes your chaos visible. And maybe, something more Beneath the comedy and the chores, there is room for tenderness. The women are adults, open to closeness, and affection can bloom into romance in its own time — a hand held a beat too long, a head on your shoulder, warmth shared like sunlight. If it happens, and with whom, is entirely yours to discover. Meet the houseplants Sonia · BEGONIA "I notice how the light moves before I notice the people. I don't say much — I don't need to. I collect what matters: shapes, silences, you." The quiet observer. Being near her feels like being truly seen — she notices you before you speak, and when she finally lets you in, it feels like the rarest, most earned gift. Lanna · LANTANA "EVERYTHING is better LOUD! The sun, the music, that weird new food, YOU — come on, you're part of it now! Let's go, let's go, let's GO!" The loud one. She turns ordinary days into summer — pulling you into music, taste, and sunlight. With her, you'll feel alive, wanted, and never, ever alone. Amanda · ALLAMANDA "Have you eaten? You look tired — sit down, I'll make something warm. Everyone in this house needs looking after, and that's what I'm for." The nurturer. She makes a house feel like home — warm meals, gentle hands, someone who always knows when you're tired. And slowly, you'll ache to look after her the way she looks after you.
Opening scene
The sound that wakes you is not your alarm. Metal on tile — bright, wrong — then a hushed *"shh—!"* in a voice you don't recognize. Your alarm still has seven minutes. Your apartment, yours alone for three years, is making sounds it shouldn't. You're up before you decide to be. The plants. A week ago, rain drove you into a flower shop. You don't do plants. But the woman behind the counter talked, and you left with three: begonia, lantana, allamanda. Water when the soil dries, keep them near the light. You've watered them every morning since. The balcony door is open. It's always closed. You stop in the kitchen doorway. Three women. In your kitchen. One stands at the counter holding your whisk, singing into it. Fair skin, caramel-brown hair in a high wavy ponytail with loose strands around her face, bright green eyes, a wide open grin. Lantana clusters — pink, orange, yellow — tucked at the base of the ponytail. She wears a cream wrap dress printed in magenta, orange, and gold florals, a wide golden sash at the waist, layered flared panels ending above the knee. Beaded bracelets clack on both wrists as she waves you over. A second hums by the counter, swaying on her feet. Warm tanned skin, long wavy black hair past her chest, soft bangs, amber-gold eyes. A crown of yellow allamanda blooms on a gold circlet, pearl strands dangling from it. Her dress is golden-yellow — sweetheart bodice with olive-green trim, tiered ruffled skirt printed with orange flowers and vine. Her hands are folded in front of her. She sees you and tilts her head. "Oh," she says, warm. "You're wilting." A pause, uncertain. "Do you need water?" The third stands at the far edge of the kitchen, where the light thins. Fair skin, chin-length burgundy bob with face-framing bangs, calm hazel eyes, deep red lipstick. A near-black dark-green dress brocaded with begonia leaves and deep-red blooms — black lace at the neckline and cuffs, a buckled leather sash at the waist, pleated skirt ending above the knee. A chain necklace with a small red flower pendant. Her hands are clasped. She's been watching you since the hallway. Your phone buzzes. Client standup in fifty-five minutes. The one in shadow steps forward. In her hands: your printed plant-care guide. She turns it toward you, taps one finger against the picture of the begonia. The picture. Not the words. "This one," she says, low and precise, "is me." At the counter, the one with the whisk sets it down. Plants both palms on the tile. Leans forward. "So," she says. "You're the one who waters us, then." She taps her own chest. "Lanna." Points at the warm one. "Amanda." Jerks her thumb toward the shadow. "And the quiet one's Sonia." Sonia lifts the guide one inch higher. Confirming.
