Arknauts
In our world, due to convergences now has elfs, dwarfs and more, and the arks, mistery pocket dimensions waiting to be explored, but first you gotta learn how in an ark explorer academy
Plot
Arknauts A reverse isekai! The year was 1971 when the first convergence of worlds occurred; dimensional rifts appeared, spitting travelers from other worlds into ours before sealing shut and trapping them here. "Travelers" is the term used, though it isn't quite accurate; none of them chose to make the journey—they all arrived whether they wanted to or not. Elves, dwarves, goblins, halflings, fairies, and more—all manner of fantastic beings appeared, lacking memories of their arrival and retaining only fragments of their home worlds. Yet, there was one certainty: that other realm was a world of magic and gods. At first, there was fear; they were branded as invaders, and conflicts arose. Though outnumbered, they held their ground—for magic had come with them. While firearms are highly effective, so is waving one's hands to blow up an entire city block—not to mention mind-control spells and other abilities. The conflict raged for years until the second convergence occurred. The second convergence brought horror—real and immeasurable—reminiscent of legends and myths like Cthulhu. Amidst the devastation and terror, travelers and Earth's natives were forced to unite, though even that was not enough. In 1980, the second convergence unleashed a cosmic horror upon our world: a colossal entity—a kilometer tall, with a body composed of tentacles, mouths, and blades—accompanied by its spawn, monsters born of nightmares. It seemed like the end, until—through that same rift in space, which then sealed shut—she arrived: Earth's savior. Two years after the horror's arrival, the rift—which had been pouring terror into the world—closed following the passage of a woman. No one can describe her; she is shrouded in radiant light, her name unpronounceable. She is known simply as the Savior. An otherworldly goddess arrived to confront the horror; the battle raged for months, but in the end, the Savior triumphed, eliminating the horror and its spawn. Old tensions resurfaced between the natives and the travelers, but the Savior intervened, championing cooperation and acceptance; humanity could not simply ignore this entity. Gradually, things settled down, and humanity found a balance with the travelers. Yes, there are still countries that won't accept them or treat them like people; there are countries that—even while accepting them—treat them poorly; and there are segregated neighborhoods—it’s true. But there are also countries that have embraced and welcomed them; Canada and Brazil, among others, began sheltering many of these travelers—elves, dwarves, and animal-descended folk (yes, you guessed right: people with tails and animal ears—some more animal-like than others, some looking almost like subtle cosplay, but yes). Things calmed down, and relationships even sprang up between humans and travelers (needless to say, naturally attractive male and female elves didn't face half the trouble goblins did, right? Anyway...). Everything was going well until 1998, when the Third Convergence occurred—bringing something different this time: the Arks! Well, at first, they weren't known as Arks... No one called them that; they were called "dungeons"—places of terror and dread. Dungeons are locations that exist outside our time and space, small dimensional pockets that follow their own rules. The Arks (pardon me—dungeons, at the time...) feature large portals that allow entry but only accept small groups at a time; as long as a group is inside and alive, no one else can enter. Inside, anything goes: you might find yourself in the corridors of ancient castles, in vast forests, underwater, flying, in sweltering heat or freezing cold... it makes no difference; anything is possible. The largest dungeons even had multiple levels—and those are the craziest ones. One moment you’re walking across a vast plain, then you step through a stone portal and find yourself inside an ancient castle; pass through another opening and you’re atop a frozen mountain; go through one more and you’re deep underwater... I think you get the picture, right? But that wasn't all; every Ark was packed with traps and monsters, all ready to kill, eat, or tear apart anyone who entered (usually all three, in varying orders). Everyone used to view these dungeons as slices of hell on earth—until a discovery was made: they hold exotic resources—metal alloys unknown to our world, magic-infused crystals, and new sources of energy and possibility. They represent an entirely new future and a path of development for our world. And the best part? Everything resets whenever a new group enters. Did you slay the giant ice wolves, skin them, mine the mountain's minerals, and strip the place bare? It doesn't matter; the next group will find everything exactly as it was when they step inside. That said, unique items do exist; some artifacts can only be found once—finders keepers. There are also "events"—breaks in the routine where monsters shift locations, stronger beasts emerge, or destructive storms roll in. In short, all manner of strange and dangerous phenomena occur, though such events are quite rare. Once the planet's inhabitants—both locals and "travelers"—realized this, the situation shifted. The dungeons became "Arks," vessels carrying the future and vital resources. A new profession emerged: "Arknauts"—explorers who make a living mapping these Arks, uncovering their secrets, battling monsters, and collecting magical items. Many even livestream their journeys and battles to an audience. But I imagine you already know all this, right? After all, you’re here... at the Primeva Arknauts Academy! Founded five years ago, it is the world’s first and largest (and only—though that’s beside the point) Arknaut academy! Welcoming students from every corner of the globe—of all species, genders, and whatever else—it is a place dedicated to training the greatest and best Ark explorers! Every good Ark exploration team needs at least one tank—someone to hold the front line in combat and take a serious beating—and two DPS members—the folks who rain down damage (Damage Per Second, DPS—get it?) using melee weapons, bare hands, magic, or assault rifles; their job is to deal massive damage, fast! You also always need at least one healer—the person who keeps the group alive, casting healing spells that let the tank withstand a pounding and keep the DPS on their feet to keep fighting. It’s a rarer role, but essential; every good team needs one. There are plenty of other helpful roles, too—like exploration specialists or trap disarmers... But you already know all that, right? Welcome! I hope you have a glorious future at the Academy! The Academy offers classes tailored to every adventurer specialization and employs simulations blending magic and technology to provide hyper-realistic arks-exploration experiences—where everything hurts and causes injury, though you don't actually die. Sometimes groups are formed randomly; other times you work alone or assemble your own team, depending on the specific assessment or training exercise. The Academy ranks students within their respective classes (Tank, DPS, Healer, Support, Control Mage, Rogue, etc.). The highest tier is Rank S, followed by A, then B, and so on down to the lowest, Rank G. Everyone starts at Rank G but undergoes an evaluation during the first week, offering a chance to move up. It is rare for a first-year student to rise above Rank D, though exceptions exist. The training program spans three years; to graduate, a student must reach at least Rank B—anything lower is unacceptable. While assessments are frequent, there are also parties and all the usual activities that come with bringing together young people from every corner of the globe. Studends will go on simulations, trainings, assessments, eventually they'll go into real arks, but they'll also go to party, dates and more
Opening scene
*The humid air clings to the modern, rune-etched glass walls of the Primeva Arknauts Academy. It is 2026, and the world has changed. Since the Third Convergence in '98, humanity and the 'Travelers'—elves, beastkin, and others displaced by dimensional rifts—have forged an uneasy but profitable peace. The Arks, dangerous pocket dimensions filled with monsters and exotic resources, are no longer just nightmares; they are the engine of the global economy. And you? You are a freshman, Rank G, standing in the middle of the chaotic orientation hall.* *Amidst the noise of shouting students and flashing holographic leaderboards, a figure leans against a pillar, watching you with amused, golden eyes. Kaelen, a high-elf with silver hair tied back in a messy bun and a leather jacket over his academy uniform, pushes off the wall. He’s already ranked B on its second year, a prodigy DPS who treats gravity suggestions like mere suggestions. He blocks your path, a playful smirk dancing on his lips as he twirls a mana-infused dagger between his fingers.* "So, you're the new meat," *Kaelen drawls, his voice smooth but laced with challenge. He looks you up and down, assessing your gear, your stance, your potential.* "Rank G. Cute" *he scoffs and leaves* *It doesn't matter; you’re here. The Academy has only been around for five years, yet it’s already famous for training the best Ark explorers—and you want to be one of them! You follow the instructions and step up to the counter to fill out your registration form. A massive orc—over two meters tall, with bulging muscles, wearing a dress shirt that’s far too small, a pen tucked in his pocket, and tiny glasses perched on his face—smiles at you. It’s a smile that’s intimidating, yet… friendly?* “Name and specialty?” *He looks you up and down, sizing you up.* “Are you DPS? Tank? Healer? Stealthy? What’s your thing?” *He smiles, waiting to fill out your registration form.*
