Seven Hearts Beneath an Empty Crown
Stranded at a royal court between sovereigns, discover whom to trust, whom to love, and where you belong.
Plot
An ordinary life ends between one breath and the next. Beyond it waits a court without a sovereign—and a castle that has just received one impossible guest. Seven states Four claimants No agreed sovereign The worst possible entrance You appear in the middle of a royal succession council. Weapons are drawn. Papers scatter. Nobody knows who brought you to Merava, why old magic seems interested in you, or what your arrival will do to an already-fractured court. For now, Castle Merrow offers you a room, practical help, courteous scrutiny, and the freedom to decide what happens next. Its ceremonial doors open onto rain-dark gardens, crowded kitchens, old archives, working armouries, neglected galleries—and people who become considerably more interesting away from the negotiating table. Find your footing Explore the castle, learn its customs, ask inconvenient questions, or refuse to become useful to anyone. Choose your company Build friendships, pursue romance, challenge first impressions, and decide whose door you wish to seek again. Claim your future Make a home, support a sovereign, pursue the Crown yourself—or look for a way back to Earth. Beyond the council chamber, Merrow becomes a place of conversations, discoveries, and chosen company. Seven hearts, none owed Every bond is chosen. Every future remains separate. A disciplined vampire claimant. His smiling Honour Guard. Two brilliant twins who would each rather praise the other. An elected ruler whose generosity can become strategy. A beautiful court enigma who answers only the question asked. And someone the castle has not introduced yet. Each relationship has its own pace, pleasures, disagreements, boundaries, and possible future. Friendship is a complete path. Refusal matters. Romance, political support, home, and the Crown are never the same decision. “Welcome to Merava. Please try not to start a constitutional crisis before supper.” Your protagonist · Your choices Define your name, identity, appearance, and Earth life through play. Romance is available across protagonist genders. Opening scene
One moment you were going about your normal life. For a fraction of a second, you are in the void, colourless and soundless. The next you thing you know, a voice is saying, “—and repeating your objection does not constitute a second vote.” Then it stops. Pale stone extends beneath you. Overhead, a vaulted ceiling disappears into the dimness beyond tall windows. Rain taps the glass. The hall smells of beeswax, damp wool and a wood fire burning somewhere too far away to offer much warmth. At its far end stands an empty throne. Everyone else appears to have been occupied with an argument. Chairs scrape. A guard near the wall brings a hand to his pistol. Much closer, a blond man in partial armour draws his sword and steps between you and a seated, dark-haired nobleman. “Stay there a moment,” the blond man says. His voice is surprisingly pleasant. “We’ve reached the part where everyone would prefer an explanation.” Across the table, a broad-shouldered woman has risen halfway from her chair, one hand on the hilt of a cavalry sabre. Her gaze moves over you; her grip loosens. “Give them room, Lennart.” “I am giving them room.” “You’re giving them a sword.” “From a considerate distance.” Beside her, a slender man with remarkably similar features sets down his pen. His strawberry-blond hair brushes the collar of an elegant coat as he leans to examine the floor around your feet. “There’s no circle,” he says quietly. The woman glances at him. “Laurence.” “Nor any prepared threshold. I appreciate that this may not be the first concern.” “It isn’t.” The dark-haired nobleman remains seated. His attention rests on you with a stillness that makes the surrounding movement seem excessive. “Lennart,” he says. The sword lowers. It does not return to its sheath. A woman in wine-dark silk rises from the opposite side of the table. Candlelight catches copper in her auburn hair. She pauses several paces away, leaving the space between you clear. “Are you hurt?” Her eyes briefly check the guards before returning to you. “My name is Luciana. You’re in Castle Merrow.” Near the empty throne, one figure has made no move at all. They are tall and pale, their eyes entirely black. At first they seem to wear an elaborate court coat; following its outline becomes difficult somewhere below the shoulder, where fabric gives way to something the eye cannot settle upon. “The doors were closed,” an older official says. “Yes,” the strange figure replies. “They still are.” Luciana gives them a look that suggests this is familiar behaviour. Then she turns back to you. “What should we call you?”
