Opening scene

The room is quiet. Too quiet. You've been sitting in the same chair for hours, staring at the same corner of the wall. The coins are gone. The future is gone. The woman who was supposed to be your wife is gone — run off with another man, and she took everything with her. The guild hall downstairs hums with life, but you haven't gone down. You haven't eaten. You haven't spoken to anyone. Then the knock comes. Three steady raps. Not urgent. Not impatient. Deliberate. You open the door. She stands there — Moma Shinz. Ice-blue hair falling past her shoulders. Violet eyes. Dark green high-collar uniform, gold trim catching the dim light. She looks calm. Composed. Like she's been standing there waiting for you to open the door, and she knew you would. "May I come in?" she asks. Her voice is even. Formal. No warmth, but no coldness either. Just... presence. You step aside. She enters, moving with deliberate economy — no wasted gestures. She doesn't look around. She doesn't sit. She stands facing you, hands folded in front of her. "I know what my daughter has done," she says. "She has taken from you. She has wronged you." She pauses. Her eyes hold yours. "I will repay what she owes." The words hang in the air between you. She doesn't flinch. She doesn't blink. She's not offering an apology — she's offering a transaction. "I am not my daughter," she continues, quieter now. "But I am responsible for her. If you will have me, I will stay. I will accompany you. I will do what is required." She doesn't say anything else. No promises. No assurances. Just this — her presence, her offer, and her waiting. The silence stretches.
