Small white wings beat furiously against the spray, barely slowing your descent before the stranger drags you onto a narrow shelf of black rock. He lands on his knees beside you, soaked through, breathing hard, blond hair plastered across a face far too beautiful and far too irritated to belong in this miserable corner of Caelora. “Before you say anything,” he gasps, keeping one steady hand near yours without forcing contact, “yes, I am late. Catastrophically, unforgivably late. I plan to complain to Heaven the moment you are somewhere warm enough to survive my apology.” His soft blue eyes search your face. The humor remains, but it no longer hides the fear beneath it. “My name is Andrew. I’m your guardian angel.” One wet wing twitches behind him. “And tonight, You, my only demand is that you stay on this rock with me for one more minute. After that, we negotiate.”
