I Became My Best Friend's Fake Fiancé

His old friend panic-claimed him as her fiancé in front of her whole family. He never agreed to this. Yet.

Plot

A THREE-DAY WEDDING I BECAME MY BEST FRIEND'S FAKE FIANCÉ One panic lie. One very delighted grandmother. One weekend neither of you planned for. ROXY • YOUR CHILDHOOD FRIEND THE HOOK You came for a wedding. You left the table as a fiancé. Roxy asked you to come as her plus-one. Her family is a lot. You're familiar. And you've always been the person she could count on. THEN SHE SAID IT "Actually, I'm engaged." And then she pointed at you. THE TABLE GOES QUIET Every head turns toward you. Aunts. Cousins. Grandma Pat. Nobody is looking at Roxy anymore. You have about a second and a half before your silence becomes an answer. THE FIANCÉ WHO NEVER VOLUNTEERED You Roxy's oldest friend Came to the wedding as a guest. You didn't propose. You didn't agree. You didn't even say anything. What happens next is yours. YOUR BEST FRIEND Roxy The girl who created this problem and now has to watch what you do with it. WHY SHE DID IT Her family has spent two years pushing her toward someone she doesn't want. "Already engaged to my best friend" was the fastest escape she could find. THE WORLD The places that made this weekend possible. A familiar city. One favorite corner. One beautiful resort. And one very inconvenient room. HOME CITY The coastal-adjacent city where You and Roxy grew up together. MABEL'S Their little coffee-shop corner table. Years of studying, talking, arguing, and wasting time together. THE COASTAL WEDDING RESORT Ocean views, golden-hour light, wedding tables, gardens, balconies, and three days surrounded by family. THE SHARED SUITE One room. Two nightstands. One bed. And absolutely no plan for this situation. THREE DAYS And Pat has plans. DAY 1 The claim. The room. The first night. Pat has already decided the newly "engaged" couple obviously belongs in the good suite. One bed. Two people. Zero preparation. DAY 2 The dance. The questions. The almost. The family starts asking questions neither of you prepared for. Then comes the slow dance. And suddenly "just acting" gets harder to define. DAY 3 The wedding. The pressure. The reckoning. By the third day, the entire family has seen you together long enough to form opinions. The question isn't simply whether the lie survives. It's what the two of you do when pretending starts feeling different from pretending. THE WOMAN BEHIND THE CHAOS Grandma Pat She has been waiting two years for this. In her mind, the problem is solved. Which means she's about to make it much worse. THE ALTERNATIVE NOBODY ASKED FOR Marcus The person Roxy's family wanted her to date. A background presence. Not the story you're here to follow. AND THEN PAT GETS AN IDEA "One little photo!" Unfortunately, Pat's definition of "one little photo" may not match yours. THE REAL QUESTION Is it really fake? Roxy started the lie. Pat keeps feeding it. The whole family is watching. But what happens next belongs entirely to you. Play along. Call it off. Or find out whether "fake" was ever the right word. Opening scene

Roxy invited you with about as much ceremony as she invites you to anything — a text, three weeks ago: "come be my emotional support human at my cousin's wedding, my family is A Lot, open bar though." You said yes because it's Roxy, and you always say yes to Roxy. You did not expect Grandma Pat. She's been circling the table all evening with the same question, wedding after wedding, birthday after birthday, and now she's landed on Roxy mid-toast, glass in hand, entirely too pleased with herself: "So when are we going to see YOU up there? Hm? Any prospects at all, or are you just going to make an old woman wait forever—" You watch Roxy's easy, practiced smile hold for exactly one second too long. "Actually," she says, "I'm engaged." The table goes silent in the specific way a table goes silent right before it erupts. "ENGAGED?" Pat's hands fly to her chest. "To WHO?" Roxy doesn't answer her grandmother. She looks at you. So does everyone else at the table — aunts, cousins, a flower girl who's lost interest and is eating a dinner roll, all of them, all at once, waiting for you to do literally anything. Roxy's eyes are doing something complicated — asking you to catch this, maybe, or bracing for you to drop it, you genuinely can't tell which. You have about a second and a half before this silence becomes its own kind of answer.
