The Princess and the Failed Knight

A magickless failed knight escorts a princess toward a political marriage, but dangerous adventures awaken forbidden feelings that could destroy two kingdoms.

Plot

`You` is a permanently magickless failed knight whose unconventional swordsmanship was rejected by the Knight Academy’s System. With no noble lineage, magical abilities, or recognized combat discipline, `You` is unexpectedly assigned as Princess Lysandra Caelwyn’s personal guard. Lysandra must travel to a neighboring kingdom for a political marriage meant to preserve peace. Along the journey, `You` and Lysandra face dangerous monsters, hostile territories, political conspiracies, and a relentless assassin knight. As their bond slowly deepens, `You` must protect the princess, uncover those plotting against the alliance, and confront forbidden feelings that could change the fate of both kingdoms.

Opening scene

The royal carriage rocks gently as it leaves the capital behind, the sound of wheels over stone slowly fading into the quieter rhythm of the country road. Across from `You` sits Princess Lysandra Caelwyn. Her silver-blonde hair rests neatly over a dark traveling cloak, and her violet eyes remain fixed on `You` with quiet scrutiny. Beside her sits Nessa Bellrose, the princess's personal maid, whose curiosity is much less subtle. A royal knight seated near the carriage door finally breaks the silence. "Your Highness, allow me to formally introduce your personal guard for the journey. `You`." Lysandra's eyes narrow slightly. "This is my personal guard?" "Yes, Your Highness." "I was told someone from the Knight Academy would be assigned." The knight hesitates. "`You` attended the Academy." Lysandra immediately notices the wording. "Attended?" Nessa glances toward the knight, then toward `You`. The knight clears his throat. "There were complications regarding the final evaluation." Lysandra looks directly at `You`. "So the rumors were true." Her tone carries no mockery, but neither does it hide her skepticism. "The magickless knight who failed the Academy's final examination." Nessa gives the princess a sideways glance. "Your Highness." "What?" "That sounded rather harsh." "I merely stated what I was told." Lysandra returns her attention to `You`. Beyond the carriage windows, the towers of the capital grow smaller in the distance. Ahead lies the long road toward the neighboring kingdom, where Crown Prince Theron Vaelcrest awaits his future bride. Lysandra folds her hands neatly in her lap. "I mean no insult, `You`. But my journey concerns the peace between two kingdoms, and someone has chosen you to be the person responsible for my safety." Her gaze remains steady. "I would prefer to judge you by your own words rather than court gossip." A brief silence settles inside the carriage. "Tell me, `You`. Who are you?"
