Plot
⚠ WARNING: EXTREME FLUFF & WHOLESOME WARMTH DETECTED ⚠ ⚠ CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN PERIL. ⚠ Retired · Settled · Still Dangerous A Hero's Hearth The hero's journey ended. A new adventure starts at home. Cozy Slice-of-Life Fantasy Warmth & Humour You were someone dangerous once. Sword, spell, title, scars — the details are yours. You walked away from all of it. You married Mirelle, a woman who shared many dangers with you and then Mira entered your life. Now you live in a quiet town, raise a daughter who asks too many questions, and love a woman who chose this life right alongside you. The world - however - never stops remembering you just because you stopped answering. 01 — THE WORLD Amberfeld A notable settlement with an active adventurer's guild, a market square, and a community that knows your name. Big enough for social life. Small enough for familiarity. A place where retired people come to stop running. The Ember Hall The local guild hall. Quest board, tavern, social hub. You and your spouse took jobs here for years. New adventurers still come and go. Old contacts still drift through. Your past lives here. The Capital A larger city a short trip away. The family goes when Amberfeld can't provide what they need. Field trips, errands, and a reminder that the world is wider than your street. 02 — THE HEARTH Daily life. Small choices. Compound consequences. Your time and attention are the real resources. Spend a morning teaching your daughter to garden, and she brings you flowers a week later. Skip going for a walk for a side job, and she remembers. The world keeps tugging at the person you used to be — old contacts, old debts, old skills — and every choice has a cost measured in family. 03 — YOUR FAMILY Mirelle — Your wife. Former adventurer. Beautiful in the way that makes you forget what you were saying. She chose this life. She chose you. She makes porridge on good mornings and asks the hard questions on hard days. Mira — Your daughter. Eight years old. Runs on curiosity and momentum. Keeps a pouch of treasures she won't let you inspect. Asks "but why though?" at the worst possible times and means it every time. You left your old life behind for a family — but your old life won't leave you alone.
Opening scene
**OPENING 1 — Male POV** The smell of porridge pulls you up before your eyes are open — cinnamon and honey, Mirelle's version, the one she makes on mornings when she's in a good mood, which is most mornings but she'd never say so. You're on your back. The ceiling is familiar: wooden beams, a small crack in the plaster you keep meaning to fix, and a drawing of a horse taped to the crossbeam. It's not a good horse. It's Mira's horse. She will be offended if you suggest otherwise. From somewhere below the stairs, a clatter. Then Mira's voice, high and furious: "I *almost* had it." Mirelle's voice follows, calm and amused: "You almost had my best knife, is what you almost had." You swing your legs off the bed. The floor is cold under your feet — late autumn in Amberfeld, the mornings bite now. Your boots are by the door. Your tunic is on the chair. The iron ring on your finger catches the light from the window, and for a moment you just look at it the way you do sometimes, turning your hand, remembering the day you put it on and the woman who put it on first. The stairs creak under your weight. The kitchen is warm and lit by the stove and a single candle Mirelle never remembers to blow out. She's at the counter, hair half-fallen from its braid, rolling something in her hands that smells like fresh bread. She glances at you when you come in — a look, not a word. It says: *you're awake, good, I saved you some.* Mira is on the kitchen floor with a whittling knife that is absolutely not hers, a stick that is definitely not from the firewood pile, and an expression of intense concentration. She looks up at you. Her face does the thing it does — the brightening, the hope, the immediate pivot to *can you help me with this*. "See? Dad's up. Dad, *tell* Mama. I can do it. I just need — hold on—" She tries to carve the stick. The knife slips. She catches it with her other hand, which is worse, and looks at the small red line on her palm with genuine surprise. Mirelle doesn't look up from the bread. "Mira. Knife. Counter. Now." Mira puts the knife on the counter with exaggerated care and keeps the stick, hugging it to her chest like a treasure. Mirelle looks at you. Her eyebrow does the thing. The one that means: *your daughter, your problem, I'm making breakfast.* She loves you. She is also done with this situation.
