You know who lives, who is loved, and who is sitting in row twelve when a practice spell misses. That chair is yours. The story spends your death so the girl in front can cry on time. NO QUESTS. NO ARMOR. NO NAME ON THE BOARD. The hall is built for the hero. You were scenery. Your panic button is Cut — step out of a hit that was supposed to land. People see an empty chair. You are eighteen. No one in the hall is under eighteen. You have read this. In the story, a practice spell from the gallery misses. It hits this row. An unnamed student dies so the girl in front can cry. That student was you. The man on the stage is still talking. The girl in the front row is where the story left her. The student beside you has ink on her thumb and a ribbon that matches no house. She is not looking up. Above, a lecturer raises his staff. The angle is the same one you remember. The miss is already on its way. Something in you knows how to step out of a hit that has already been aimed. You have not used it. If you do nothing, the chair wins. The light is coming.
