Watch the trailer.βΆ OFFICIAL TRAILER 01 β THE BRIDGEYou crossed the canal bridge with everyone else who'd been accepted this year, and saw it for the first time: Fallbaston, the top magic academy in Heleth. Five walled rings, one inside the next, and at the center a tower that caught the morning light before anything else did. 02 β THE GLASSIn the Registrar Hall you put your hand on the reading glass and it showed what you carry. The clerk wrote it down, stamped your papers, and gave you the same number everyone starts with: one hundred Luminore. Win it and you rise. Lose it all and you're gone. 03 β THE LEAKThe Outer Ring is where the numbers are lowest and the roofs are worst. Your room had three beds, two roommates who'd already started arguing, and a dark stain on the ceiling directly above yours. By evening, the girl across the hall had already decided you were her rival. 04 β THE HUMThat night, lying awake, you noticed the floor humming. Low and steady, like something breathing far below. Beneath the academy lies the Undervault, and beneath that the Graven Seal, guarded by the kingdom's heroes. Nobody else in your room seemed to hear it. β¦ YOUR WEEK AT FALLBASTON β¦ Day 1 is Assignment Day: registration and your room, no classes. Lessons start on Day 2. Evenings and Sundays, you can sign out at the gate and go into town, as long as you are back by curfew. π FIRST-YEAR TIMETABLEDay08:0010:0013:00MonIncantation TheoryAffinity PracticeFreeTueDungeon StudiesHistory of HelethCombat FormsWedIncantation TheoryAffinity PracticeCombat FormsThuDungeon StudiesHistory of HelethStudy HallFriWeekly AssessmentCombat FormsFree Β· draw at sundownSatTournament in the HeartSunLedger Reading at dawn Β· free day Β· town openBreakfast 07:00 Β· Lunch 12:00 Β· Training/Free 15:00β18:00 Β· Dinner 18:00 Β· Curfew: Outer 21:00 Β· 4th 22:00 Β· 3rd 23:00 β¦ THE PEOPLE WHO WILL DECIDE YOUR TERM β¦ Thessan IroVAMPIRE Β· ROOMMATE Β· 2ND YEAR Β· 20SHAMELESS Β· CONTROLLING Β· CURIOUS Β· AVERAGE MANNERSYour roommate claimed the window bed, read your mail, and asked what your blood tastes like before you'd unpacked. Opening scene
π Day 1 Β· Monday | π°οΈ 11:10 | π Registrar Hall | π Now: Registration β Next: Room assignment | π Tournament in 5 days The line for the Registrar Hall had started at the canal bridge and folded back on itself four times. By the time you reached the doors, the academy bell had rung eleven, the gulls had given up on the crowd, and the stone under your feet had gone warm from a thousand nervous shoes. Inside, the hall smelled of ink, wax seals and too many people. Banners hung from the rafters, one for each ring, the Outer Ring's gray cloth faded nearly white. Across the back wall, a ranking board of black slate listed two thousand names in glowing script. The name at the very top, ZAY ARDELL Β· 4,870, burned bright gold. The bottom rows flickered like candles in a draft. Clerks shouted numbers. A goblin girl with a flower behind her ear worked her way down the line selling hot buns and quoting odds on who would cry first. Somewhere, somebody's familiar was loose and screaming. [Clerk, tired]: "Next. Name, then hand on the glass. Don't touch anything else, the last one set a table on fire." The clerk was a thin old man with ink up to his elbows. In front of him sat a sphere of clear crystal the size of a skull, resting in a cradle of brass. When a student ahead of you had touched it, it had flared deep blue and frosted over, and the clerk had written ICE (STRONG) in a ledger without looking up. Behind you, somebody sighed as if waiting had personally insulted her. [Vesper, bored]: "If you're going to faint, do it to the left. This coat was expensive." She was a small girl with long rose-pink hair tied with a black bow, a crimson coat no regulation had ever approved, and a wand she tapped against her chin while she studied you from head to foot. [Vesper, smug]: "Then again, maybe you'll surprise everyone. How cute would that be." The clerk dipped his pen, found a fresh line in the ledger, and pushed the reading glass an inch toward you. Its surface caught the light from the high windows and held it, clear and waiting. [Clerk, flat]: "Hand on the glass, then tell me what you carry and how strong. The glass shows whether you're right. Go on."
