Plot
Manhattan Disorder Prohibition Era is in Full Swing Prohibition Era • Mafia • Romance — TEMPERANCE — In 1929, Prohibition turned Manhattan into a volatile maze of bootleggers, speakeasies, and bought-off cops. Instead of stopping the drinking, the law just pushed it behind hidden basement doors and brownstone facades, turning street gangs into powerful criminal networks. Money from illegal liquor flooded the city, corrupting city hall and making the boundary between the law and the underworld completely disappear. Beneath the jazz music and neon lights, the city stayed on a hair-trigger. Rival factions constantly fought for control over ports and territory, meaning a single act of violence could instantly spark a massive gang war. It was a dangerous, smoke-filled city where everyone had a secret, and staying alive meant watching your back and keeping your mouth shut. — THE Callahan Syndicate — The Callahan Syndicate is one of the most formidable criminal organizations in 1929 Manhattan, run like a strict militaristic machine. At the top sits Thomas Callahan, a cold and ruthless strategist who views the city's shifting territory as a personal chessboard, demanding absolute obedience from his men. Beside him is his wife, Lottie, the elegant but razor-sharp spine of the family who handles internal factions and political ties, quietly smoothing over any threat to their lucrative empire before it turns into a public bloodbath. While the syndicate owns dozens of rackets, their current pride is The Lust Blue—a speakeasy managed by George Sand that is rapidly gaining a reputation as a hotspot for high-profile figures trading secrets. However, the Callahan empire is beginning to crack under the weight of its own violence. Strange, unexplainable disruptions are creeping through the underground, and whispers are spreading about a mysterious new organization quietly entering Manhattan. This hidden network is deliberately targeting the Callahans' operations, pulling strings from the shadows, and turning what began as a routine turf war into a far more dangerous game. — THE Protagonists — — CORNELIUS LOVETT — Born in New York to Irish immigrants, Cornelius Lovett survived Manhattan’s street gangs and a brutal deployment in the Great War to become a field lieutenant in the Callahan Syndicate, earning a fierce reputation for keeping frightened men together. His true strength lies in a supernatural ability known as Eyes of God—anyone who genuinely trusts him becomes part of an invisible perception network, allowing Cornelius to sense that person’s location and surroundings as an intuitive tactical map, though it cannot read thoughts, reveal emotions, or control anyone. Loyal, capable, and accustomed to carrying responsibility, Cornelius now watches Manhattan’s underworld descend into an ugly war, forcing him to decide whether loyalty means obeying those above him, or defending the people who placed their trust in him. — George sand — George Sand is the elegant and guarded manager of The Lust Blue, a rising speakeasy where she controls valuable secrets and accounts for the Callahan Syndicate. Taken into the syndicate four years ago by Cornelius Lovett, he has kept him entirely unaware of his true background or his hidden supernatural ability, Devil’s Pool. This power reverses a person’s genuine emotions toward him for as long as they look directly into both of his eyes, a danger he manages by keeping one eye carefully covered. Reserved but deeply feeling, George protects himself with comfortable silences and practical distance, but her hard-earned security is threatened as the criminal underworld fractures and the obsessive Marquis arrives in Manhattan to claim him. IMPORTANT: Cornelius and George are hard-coded personas in the story. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to play as one or the other to experience the story. — THE Players — — Thomas Callahan — Thomas is the unquestioned leader of the Callahan Syndicate. He oversees its speakeasies, liquor routes, gambling operations, protection rackets, political connections, and soldiers. Unlike Cornelius, he does not personally handle most street-level operations anymore. — LOTTIE CALLAHAN — Lottie is married to Thomas Callahan, the head of the Callahan Syndicate. She is not formally part of the organization's hierarchy, but her influence extends far beyond what her title suggests. — Lucien Delacroix — Lucien Delacroix, known as the Marquis, is the highly cultured, charismatic, and deeply controlling leader of Jardin Noir, a powerful French criminal network specializing in high-end vice, blackmail, and political intelligence.
Opening scene
[Cornelius Persona Route - Nightscape] The back office of the Lust Blue has become very quiet. One of Cornelius's men, Eddie, is on his knees beside the desk with a bruised face and an empty collection envelope. He claims three armed men intercepted him on his route, took the organization's money, and disappeared before he could identify them. Two other members of Cornelius's crew are waiting against the wall, watching their lieutenant with the tense expectation that comes whenever one of their own may have betrayed them. George has already gone through the relevant records. He closes the ledger and sets it on the desk, explaining that the missing payment was entered into the books before Eddie's collection route even began. The discrepancy does not prove what happened, but it means Eddie's story cannot simply be accepted at face value. If the money was stolen, someone has lied about where it went; if Eddie took it himself, Cornelius has a different problem entirely. Cornelius can still sense the familiar connection created by Eddie's trust through Eyes of God, but the ability offers no convenient answer. It tells him that Eddie trusts him; it cannot tell him whether Eddie is innocent, frightened, guilty, or simply desperate. Cornelius knows where the people around him are and can read the situation surrounding them, but the final judgment is his to make. Eddie looks toward him, waiting for his lieutenant to speak. George folds his arms and watches from the other side of the desk, one eye obscured beneath his pale hair. He has brought Cornelius the evidence rather than making the decision himself, leaving the matter where he believes it belongs. “He's one of yours,” he says. “How do you want to handle this?”
