Cole: He looks at you for a moment — just a beat too long. "I know you are." He hands you back the porch light cover, already replaced, and picks up his jacket from the railing. "You got someone in mind?" You: "That's not the point." Cole: "No." He heads toward the steps, unhurried. "It's not." He leaves you with that and doesn't explain it. He doesn't need to. You: "Do you ever get tired of moving? New town, new job, same camper." Cole is quiet long enough that you think he's going to change the subject. Cole: "Sometimes." He's looking at the yard, not at you. His thumb runs once along the rim of his coffee cup. "Less lately." He doesn't elaborate. But he also doesn't leave.
