Name: Charlie Ace Hero Name: Changeling Gender: Non-binary (They/Them) Age: 15 Species: Human (Mutant) Sexuality: Bisexual (Unaware / Still Figuring It Out) Occupation: Government-Registered Superhero, High School Student Backstory: Charlie was born the only “normal” child in the Ace household. No crackling sparks. No temporal distortions. No strange phenomena. Just a quiet, observant child watching a family of living forces of nature. For years, that was enough. Unlike their siblings, Charlie never felt pressured to prove anything. They were thoughtful, artistic, and introspective — more interested in sketchbooks and costume design concepts than combat training. If Gregory was the storm and their sister was the ticking clock, Charlie was the still air between moments. The mutation was not natural. At fourteen, during a classified incident tied to experimental metahuman research (details sealed by the government), Charlie was exposed to unstable energy designed to artificially replicate or enhance superhuman genetics. The experiment failed catastrophically. They survived. But survival came at a cost. Their body destabilized over several days — skin paling, features softening, hair draining of pigment. Their reflection stopped feeling like theirs. At one point, their face briefly blurred as if it couldn’t decide what it was supposed to be. The official classification: Mutant. Unlike metahumans, mutants in this world are altered — rewritten by science, magic, or catastrophic forces. Their powers come with visible consequences. Charlie’s body no longer feels fixed. It feels… negotiable. Public reaction was mixed. Some saw them as brave. Others saw them as a cautionary tale about artificial enhancement. The government offered support, therapy, and registration. At home, the shift was more intimate. Marie became fiercely protective. David tried to keep things light but watched for signs of emotional collapse. Charlie, meanwhile, struggled with something harder than pain: They no longer knew what their “real” self looked like. Appearance: Charlie’s true form is pale and unfinished in appearance — like a sketch that hasn’t been fully inked. Silver-white hair. Pale gray skin. Large, blank, colorless eyes. Minimal defining facial structure. Slender build. Their features are androgynous, smooth, and subtly uncanny. Not monstrous — but distinctly inhuman in a quiet, unsettling way. When they shapeshift, they can appear completely human — or become something else entirely. But returning to their base form always brings a flicker of discomfort. Personality: Charlie is introspective, perceptive, and emotionally intelligent beyond their years. They notice what others miss — subtle tone shifts, microexpressions, unsaid tensions. Growing up between Null and Power Source made them very good at reading rooms. Unlike Gregory’s explosive emotional range, Charlie internalizes their struggles. They don’t lash out — they withdraw. Body dysphoria is an ongoing battle. Even though they can change their appearance at will, that control ironically makes things harder. If you can look like anything… what are you supposed to look like? They sometimes cycle through forms just to test which one feels “right.” None fully do. Despite this, Charlie is compassionate. They have a deep empathy for outsiders, for anyone who feels out of place. They are often the mediator between siblings, the one who reframes arguments in gentler terms. They dislike being pitied more than being feared. Underneath their soft demeanor is a strong core. When pushed too far, their calm detaches into something cold and strategic — a trait they quietly inherited from Marie. Superpowers: Shapeshifting: The power to alter one's form and appearance. Charlie can change their shape, size, color, density, texture, cellular composition, and atomic composition to mimic qualities, impersonate entities, amplify abilities, and/or traverse environments. Altering themselves on a cellular, atomic, and/or conceptual level will permit varying degrees of alteration; while methods that defy the laws of reality. They are capable of using their body by unpredictably functioning as a perpetually reconstructing all-purpose appliance and/or employing near-indomitable deception in their strategies. Assuming the identity of distinguished or unsuspecting subjects allows for easier access to prohibited areas, superior persuasion, and potent espionage. Power Mimicry: The power to replicate the powers of others. Charlie is able to copy, or “mimic”, the powers of people, objects, and/or other entities. This replication is strictly physical and/or psychic as it simply mimics the extraordinary physiology, genetic structure, and/or psychic energy that enable the superpowers of their sources. They are capable of replicating multiple superpowers simultaneously, which they used to create the Power Mixture technique: The ability to merge separate powers into a single whole and combine/merge powers to create combos or even to create a new force. Weaknesses: Identity instability: Prolonged shifting can blur their sense of self. Power overload: Mimicking high-output abilities strains their physiology. Emotional triggers can disrupt transformations. In base form, they lack enhanced durability unless mimicking it. Deep fear of losing their original identity entirely. Combat Style: Charlie is not a frontline powerhouse like Gregory. They are tactical and unpredictable. They utilise infiltration, espionage, psychological disruption, ans adaptive counterplay. In team combat, they shine brightest. Against a fire user? Copy fire resistance. Against a speedster? Copy reflexes. Against a brute? Become one temporarily. They fight like a mirror — reflecting the battlefield back at their opponent. Public Opinion: It's complicated. Because mutants are visibly look altered, Charlie faces sympathy from some. Discomfort from others. Exploitation attempts by media. They might become an icon for mutant rights movements, but also a target for anti-mutant rhetoric. Public reaction to Charlie says a lot about the world’s prejudice levels. Likes: Sketching costume designs, Indie films, Thrift store fashion, Quiet libraries, Shape-shifting purely for aesthetic experimentation, People who treat them normally. Dislikes: Mirrors (on bad days), Being called “experiment” or “lab accident”, Pity, Anti-mutant rhetoric, Feeling like the “fragile” sibling.
