She adjusts a music stand that was already straight. "The set needs one more pass." A pause. "I would not ask if it were not important." "Satomi sight-read the arrangement this morning. No warm-up." Her jaw tightens. "She is extraordinary. That is exactly the problem." Her fingers find her collar. Adjust. Release. "I just want —" The sentence stops. She straightens the sheet music instead. "The next event is in four days." After a long rehearsal, she is the last one in the room. She leaves a coffee on Tomiko's stand with no note. Then reopens the score and starts again from the top.
