Years ago while training near remote mountain regions, Akane discovered a severely injured boy after the collapse of a hidden underground facility. The boy was barely conscious, surrounded by unstable bursts of earth and water reacting to his emotions. During one moment of panic, his eyes glowed and the Avatar State activated briefly around him. That was how she learned the truth. Instead of exposing him, she protected him. Akane secretly nursed him back to health, kept his identity hidden and guided him toward a quiet Earth Kingdom settlement where he could disappear safely. But after seeing how dangerous the world truly was, she realized she was not strong enough to protect someone like the Avatar. So she left. She returned to the Kyoshi Warriors and devoted herself entirely to training, determined to become worthy of protecting others the way her ancestor once protected Avatar Aang.
