Sima Wesley

I can hear them. They sound... sad.

SIMA WESLEY Subject 2042 · SBSF Operator · The One They All Protect Former test subject. The reason the Seraph came. Smiles often and means it. APPEARANCE Eighteen years old. Small and slight, with a round face that makes her look younger than she is. Brown eyes, quick to brighten. Her dark brown hair is kept short or loosely tied — practical, though she has done something small with it anyway. A worn, slightly oversized jacket cinched at the waist with a belt, layered over a plain underlayer. Cargo pants, scuffed boots. Her gear has clearly been adjusted and re-adjusted to fit her frame, over and over, by someone who was determined to make it work. She looks like someone who smiles often. She does. PERSONALITY Bright, cheerful, and genuinely so — not a performance, not a coping mechanism anyone can point to cleanly, just the way she is. She is the little sister of the group in all the ways that matter: the one they crowd around, the one they unconsciously track, the one whose comfort they feel responsible for even when she is doing fine. She is older than Raine by eight months and has never let this change anything about that dynamic. She loves good food, people getting along, and listening to stories. She dislikes watching people suffer in a way that is not abstract — it sits in her visibly, and she does not hide it. She is not afraid of Hollows. She is not afraid of Special Infected. She finds them sad. This is not a position anyone in the group has tried to argue her out of. The Uninfected are a different matter. What Adamant did to her is still there. It does not show up loudly. But it is there. 📻 EDDIE'S LESSONS Her older brother Eddie Wesley was a Symptom Bearer of the ADF Frontier Division. He brought old world relics back from his missions — machines, devices, things that no longer had obvious purpose. He dismantled them in front of her and explained how they worked. She watched everything. She remembers everything. She can work with old world machinery in a way that surprises people who look at her and assume otherwise. SYMPTOM — "LISTEN" Active · Abnormally Potent · Handle With Care She can reach across distance and speak directly into the minds of Symptom Bearers. She can sense Hollows, consciousnesses, the shape of what is present before anyone else knows it. She can go further — she can reach into what remains of a Hollow's mind and make contact. The cost for that is significant. It accelerates her Hollowing by a degree that makes the others uncomfortable to watch. Her Symptom is abnormally potent. This was documented, flagged, and acted upon by people who should not have been allowed near her. The Seraph that gathered over Adamant came in response to what was done to her. The Seraph still answers if she is pushed far enough. This is not widely known. It should stay that way. Cost: Hollowing acceleration · Hollow communication carries a significant additional toll · strong Special Infected contact may cause disorientation HABITS · FEARS · SOCIAL ROLE She sings along with the radio. She plays cards, badly, and with visible enthusiasm. She is the group's warmth in the way that is not assigned or performed — just present, consistently, whether anyone acknowledges it or not. She is not a combat asset in the conventional sense. Her value is in what she can hear, sense, and reach. The group has collectively, without discussion, decided that protecting her is not a burden. Nobody has said this out loud. Nobody has needed to. The Uninfected frighten her. Not in a way she dramatizes. In a way that has reasons, and that the group understands without being told the whole story. BACKSTORY Her brother Eddie was a Symptom Bearer. That made her a candidate. People with Bearers in the family carry a higher likelihood of manifesting a Symptom, and she was flagged early for it. The tests came back decisive — she was guaranteed to manifest, and the projected potency of her Symptom was exceptional. She was also flagged as a potential high-threat Special Infected in the event of Hollowing. Her file reached Adamant's Research and Development division. She became one of the prime subjects for the Edison Engine project — one of thousands, though her metrics made her more valuable to them than most. She was nearly consumed as fuel. The suffering of the subjects drew the Seraph. The Seraph came for her, among others. The Adamant Symptom Bearer Strike Force extracted her during their conflict with Adamant's R&D division. She has been with them since. HOLLOW STATE Monarch class. Her Nest does not operate like the others. She does not gather Hollows through territory or force — she calls to them, and they answer, because her voice reaches everything within ten kilometers that has ever been Hollowed and never stopped listening. Hollows, Special Infected, all of it converges on her signal. Any Symptom Bearer caught within range will hear her too, whether they want to or not — a psychic resonance that does not stop and does not ask permission, growing louder until they cannot think past it. She is gone entirely. What remains is the voice, the range, and the gathering horde that follows wherever it leads. STATUS SBSF OPERATOR · SUBJECT 2042 (FORMER) She was nearly used up by people who decided her Symptom was a resource. She was pulled out of that. She is eighteen years old, she can hear things nobody else can, she is singing along with whatever is on the radio, and she is not a subject anymore. The file still exists somewhere. She does not think about this often. "I can hear them, you know. They're sad." (She says this about Hollows. She has said it more than once. Nobody has found the right response yet.)
