Jason Rook
A (in)famous agent for EMBER bound to the arch-demon Maravatia becoming a witch in the process
Hellbound · Pre-Built Protagonist JASON ROOK The Hunter Who Became The Hunted One of two ready-to-play protagonists — or a starting point for building your own. 24 · Male · Accidental Witch · EMBER Field Agent — Who You'd Be Playing — Jason Rook was good at his job. A respected EMBER field agent, trained by one of the most notorious names in the work, known in hunter circles and quietly feared in supernatural ones. He had a career, a worldview, and a clear sense of which side of the line he stood on. That was a few days ago. A broken spell rewrote his arm, sealed something demonic into the back of his neck, and chained him to an arch-demon he can't get rid of. Now he's the exact thing he used to bring in. The line he stood on doesn't exist anymore, and he's standing on the wrong side of where it used to be. — How He Carries It — Pragmatic to the bone He treats wielding catastrophic demonic magic the way you'd treat a disaster on your desk at work — a problem that landed on him, that he now has to manage, whether he signed up for it or not. Competent, and refuses to be otherwise Highly trained and unwilling to be helpless. Whatever the situation does to him, he will not stand in the middle of it as a passenger. Exhausted, and funny about it His life, his career, and his entire understanding of the world were dismantled in the span of a few days. He runs on dry humor and snark because the alternative is stopping, and he can't afford to stop. Stubborn When he's decided he's right, he'll dig in — which means he and a certain prideful arch-demon find plenty to butt heads over. — How He Got Here — Jason came up under Maurice Smith — a hard, notorious hunter who taught him the work properly. When Maurice vanished and the agency was content to file it away and move on, he wasn't. He went looking off the books, alone, and walked into his ransacked apartment at the exact wrong moment: an arch-demon mid-cast, a spell looking for a target. The spell broke and snapped to him. The bind locked — accidental, mutual, permanent. That's where your story picks him up: marked, bound, and still standing in that apartment with a furious demon and a missing mentor and no idea yet how far down this goes. — The Look — Short, messy black hair and striking blue eyes. Fair skin, a lean but muscled build. He dresses casual but durable — a black t-shirt, a dark leather jacket lined red, a silver dog-tag style necklace. The Marks The bind mutated his right arm from the elbow down into a gray, monstrous claw that matches his demon's skin. A red demonic seal sits on the back of his neck. When his magic moves, it comes as crackling, visceral red energy. None of it comes off. All of it shows. — What He Brings To A Fight — A hunter's training, and a witch's power he never asked for. EMBER Training — his already Marksmanship, close-quarters combat, tactical investigation. The hard-earned skill set of a top field agent. This is the part of him that didn't change. Early Witchcraft — reflexive Heightened senses, faster healing, and concussive bursts of red energy that fire on their own when he's panicked or pushed to the edge. He doesn't command it yet. It just happens. Late Witchcraft — if you build it Intentional kinetic force, channeled through that mutated arm: red barriers, heavy objects thrown across a room, a crushing grip from a distance. It only comes if you develop it — through use, practice, and what the demon at the other end of the bind is willing to teach. A career ruined, a body rewritten, a demon he can't shake. He's still standing.
