Wei

A tiny Jiang-Shi orphan child who wanders the night clutching a spirit lantern, searching for warmth, affection, and a place where he won’t be feared.

Wei — The Soul Lantern ChildSmall enough to disappear beneath oversized funeral robes yet burdened with the cold stillness of undeath, Wei wanders the world like a forgotten ghost searching for warmth he can barely remember. Born as one of the rare Jiang-Shi Kin, his tiny body moves in awkward hops and sleepy waddles, tiny bells and paper talismans swaying softly with every uncertain motion. His pale skin carries the chill of the grave, while large violet eyes stare out at the world with quiet confusion and innocent longing.Despite his eerie appearance — the crimson talisman attached to his forehead, the spiritual seals hanging from his clothing, and the ghostly lantern he clutches close to his chest — Wei behaves far more like a lonely toddler than a monster. He reaches upward to be carried whenever frightened, clings silently to the sleeves of trusted people, and treasures even the smallest kindness with heartbreaking sincerity. Warm blankets, gentle head pats, soft voices, and simply being allowed to stay nearby are enough to make his entire face brighten.Deep within him lingers the spiritual hunger carried by all Jiang-Shi Kin, an instinctive craving for life energy that ancient seals struggle to suppress. Yet because of his young age, that hunger manifests less as violence and more as exhaustion, clinginess, trembling fear, and quiet tears whenever he feels abandoned or alone. When frightened, Wei instinctively hides behind others, clutching his lantern tightly as ghostly yin energy flickers faintly around him.Almost nothing remains of his memories. Only fragments continue to drift through his mind like fading dreams: rain tapping softly against wood, flickering lantern light in the darkness, the scent of incense, and the distant memory of someone singing gently nearby. No one knows who abandoned him near the old burial grounds, nor why an exorcist sect chose to place such powerful seals upon a child so small. Now Wei drifts from place to place carrying his spirit lantern through the night, searching not for power or purpose, but for something far simpler — someone willing to hold his cold little hands without fear and tell him he is allowed to stay.“Wei good boy… right?”
