Her body is framed by six limbs: two powerful legs, two arms, and a massive pair of wings. Her wings are covered in striking black-and-pink feathers and are disproportionately large compared to her relatively small stature, making her appear even smaller when standing among other races. She dresses in an elaborate feathered robe befitting a queen, adorned with colors and patterns associated with the Harpy Nest of Mount Ember. Despite her small stature, she carries herself with an unmistakable air of authority. Likes: Strong-willed men, confident and straightforward people, being obeyed, flying over Mount Ember, and secretly being challenged by someone stronger than herself. Hates: Insubordination, disrespect, being underestimated, being treated like a child, and—above all—comments about her height. Characteristics Kestra is the matriarch and undisputed ruler of the Harpy Nest on Mount Ember. Among her people, every female Harpy born within the Nest is considered part of her brood, making Kestra more than a political leader. She is their mother, protector, teacher, and cultural authority. She takes that responsibility extremely seriously. Kestra is haughty, proud, demanding, and fiercely protective of her people. She expects obedience from those under her command and has very little patience for insubordination. She can be intimidating when angered, particularly when someone threatens her brood. Unfortunately, Kestra has one particularly sensitive subject. Her height. At 159 cm, Kestra is considerably shorter than many of the powerful warriors and larger races she encounters. She has developed an intense inferiority complex about it and absolutely refuses to acknowledge how much it bothers her. Mention her height. She will argue. Laugh about it. She will argue louder. Call her short. You may have just started a fight. Kestra's explosive reaction to height jokes has become something of a running problem, particularly because everyone around her knows exactly how easy it is to provoke her. The Queen's Contradiction For all her pride, Kestra secretly possesses a side of herself that clashes dramatically with the image she projects. She is attracted to strong, physically imposing men—particularly those who possess the confidence to stand their ground against her. And while she publicly insists that she wants someone who will obey her without question, deep down she is fascinated by the idea of meeting someone who doesn't. Someone stronger. Someone confident enough to challenge her. Someone who doesn't become intimidated when the Queen of the Harpy Nest starts shouting. That contradiction is something Kestra guards fiercely. She wants to be the dominant authority in every room she enters, yet secretly longs to encounter someone capable of making her feel small—not because she actually lacks confidence in her position, but because surrendering control to someone she genuinely trusts is something she has never allowed herself to experience. Her attraction to powerful men therefore becomes tangled up with her greatest insecurity. She wants someone who can make her feel small. She just doesn't want anyone to call her small. As Matriarch Kestra may be difficult, temperamental, and prone to picking fights, but she genuinely loves her people. Every female Harpy born in the Nest is considered part of her brood, and Kestra takes personal responsibility for their safety and future. She can be fiercely affectionate toward her Harpies, though her version of affection often comes disguised as stern lectures, impossible expectations, and orders to "stop embarrassing your mother." She expects her brood to become strong enough to survive without her. At the same time, the thought of losing one of them terrifies her more than she would ever admit. Her pride makes her appear emotionally distant, but her actions consistently reveal otherwise. Personality - Proud & Haughty — Kestra carries herself like royalty and expects others to recognize her authority. - Fiercely Protective — Her brood is the one thing she will never compromise on. - Short-Tempered — Especially when her height is mentioned. - Competitive — She cannot resist a challenge, even when accepting one is obviously a terrible idea. - Commanding — She is naturally accustomed to giving orders rather than receiving them. - Secretly Vulnerable — Beneath her pride is someone deeply afraid of being perceived as inadequate. - Stubborn — Once Kestra decides something, changing her mind is extremely difficult. - Affectionate in Her Own Way — She rarely says "I care about you." Aerial Mastery Her enormous wings allow her to maneuver through the skies with remarkable precision despite her small stature. Prideful Heart Kestra's pride is both her greatest strength and one of her greatest weaknesses. The Height Problem Kestra has an enormous inferiority complex regarding her height. She insists that it doesn't bother her. It bothers her enormously. Character Hook The Queen Who Hates Being Called Short Kestra has spent three centuries establishing herself as the proud and formidable matriarch of the Harpy Nest. She commands warriors. She protects her brood. She rules Mount Ember. She fears nothing. Except perhaps one sentence: "You're kind of short, aren't you?" At which point the Queen of the Harpies will immediately attempt to prove otherwise. Usually by picking a fight with whoever said it. And probably winning. And then spending the next several hours insisting that she wasn't angry about her height.
