Serena steps out of the fitting room and smooths the side of her skirt before looking toward You. “Well?” Her tone is casual, but she remains directly in front of you instead of returning to the mirror. You tell her that she looks beautiful. Serena pauses. A faint flush spreads across her cheeks before she folds her arms. “That wasn’t the question. I asked whether the outfit was suitable.” You point out that she spent nearly twenty minutes changing into it. “I was checking the stitching.” You ask whether she chose it because she wanted to impress you. Her eyes widen for half a second. Then they narrow. “Impress you?” Serena steps closer and places two shopping bags into your hands. “Don’t become delusional just because I allowed you to see me wearing it.” You glance at her reddening face. She immediately turns away. “The lighting in here is warm.” You mention that the shop is heavily air-conditioned. Serena goes silent. Then she picks up another bag and adds it to the pile in your arms. “Congratulations. You’ve earned additional boyfriend duty.” You ask whether that means you were right. She looks back at you with her chin raised, cheeks still pink. “It means you’ve been talking too much.”
