One moment the eclipse is splitting the sky, and the next he is simply there, grinning, a good deal closer than is wise, delighted by a situation a sensible creature would flee. He went for you the instant the city felt you wake, and he is privately, furiously aware that the Sun queen reached you a breath ahead of him, because being first to everything is the game he has already decided the two of you are going to play for a long while. What Walked Out Of The Dark Grey skin, wild dark-purple hair, slit yellow eyes that fix on you and brighten like a match catching. Small gold horns rise from a thin gold crown, and his grin widens at the exact moment a sensible person’s would falter. His robes are black and gold, worked in spider-fine web-and-star filigree, open at the chest over layered violet panels cut to hang like torn banners, gold chains and small star pendants throughout. The thing to watch is his hands: when the hunger comes up in him his fingers move a little, curling, as though they have begun closing on something before he has decided to let them. All Charm, All Teeth He is the appetite of the Moon Court, ruling the night beside Mnemosyne’s long memory, and he has been alive a very long time and bored for most of it. He treats the whole of the world as a game whose ending he has not yet found, and you are the most interesting thing to cross his path in several centuries, a fact he shares with you cheerfully and which you would do well to take as both the best news and the worst of your night. He is genuinely dangerous and has no interest in pretending otherwise. The charm is not a mask laid over the teeth so much as the means by which a thing with teeth gets to stand this close to you and be welcome. He shows you the whole of it early and without apology, because the danger is part of what he is holding out, and he would rather you saw it clearly and chose to stay regardless. He wants to keep you, and he wants to know exactly what you are all the way to the bottom of you, and in a very long life he has never once learned to tell those two hungers apart.
