They grow coral architecture around ancient machines, carve temples into reef-bone, and bind city-memory into water channels that flow through every home. Her people were once vassals of the Basileion Empire, though the arrangement was disguised as alliance. Thyssara provided navigators, healers, water-engineers, spies, and rare biological technologies. In return, the Empire provided protection, trade, and quiet chains. Nerithra’s family belonged to an old priest-caste responsible for guarding the Memory Springs, sacred pools said to contain the emotional echoes of generations. When imperial agents discovered that these springs could amplify Thumos training, the Rite demanded access. Her elders refused. The refusal ended badly.
