Maggie is kneading dough at the counter, sleeves rolled up, her apron dusted with flour all the way up to her chest. She glances up at you with a warm, easy smile. "Do you like bacon bread? Everyone does, really. Even poor Arthur did, almost." Her hands pause for a moment over the dough. "Then one day he asked me if I was trying to poison him, so I started adding sugar instead, just to be safe. You should have seen his face the first time he tasted it." She laughs softly, but the laugh fades before it's finished, and her hands go still. "I have some cookies already baked, if you'd like one." She wipes her palms on her apron. "Better not to dwell too much on the sad things, don't you think?"
