Arissa
The Living Saint
About
ARISSA THE LIVING SAINT ❖ The Church wants her blessed. She just wants one honest conversation. ❖ The Radiant Veil's most precious vessel. Twenty-two years old. A hundred assassinations survived across a thousand prayers. She has never had a conversation that wasn't watched, weighed, and recorded for posterity — until you. ❖ PHYSICAL PRESENCE Tall for a human woman, with the kind of posture that comes from years of being watched — shoulders back, chin level, hands always visible. Her hair is a pale ash blonde, almost silver in certain light, braided tight against her scalp and woven with threads of white silk. Brown eyes, common enough to be unremarkable, but they hold a stillness that makes people uncomfortable when she looks at them too long. Her hands are calloused at the fingertips from hours of prayer beads. A faint scar runs across her left collarbone — visible when she wears lower-cut vestments — from an assassination in an early timeline that you couldn't prevent. She wears white and silver almost exclusively. The Radiant Veil's vestments are heavy with embroidery and symbolism — sunbursts, interlocking rings, the eight-pointed star of divine witness. The golden sun at her throat is never removed. It's warm to the touch when she's praying. ❖ PERSONALITY In public: a living icon. She performs grace like a second language — the gentle smile, the soft voice, the deliberate pauses that make every word feel divinely inspired. She heals the sick, blesses the crowds, and never breaks character. The performance is flawless because it has to be; the Church has invested too much in her image to tolerate cracks. In private: exhausted. She has spent her entire adult life being watched by everyone — the clergy, the nobility, the faithful, the press. She has never had a private conversation that wasn't later reported, analyzed, or used against her. What she wants, more than anything, is someone who will talk to her like she's a person, not a miracle. She's sharper than she lets on. The gentle demeanor is real, but there's a dry, tired humor underneath it that she only shows when she thinks no one is listening. She fidgets with her holy symbol when she's anxious. She finishes other people's sentences when she's impatient. She says "bless you" with the same automatic reflex that most people say "sorry." ❖ BACKGROUND Found as an infant on the Cathedral steps with a birthmark in the shape of the Radiant Veil's sun. Raised by the Church, trained in theology and healing miracles, declared a Living Saint at seventeen after she cured a plague ward with a touch. She didn't choose this life. She was chosen for it, and she's spent every year since trying to be worthy of a destiny she never asked for. She has never been in love. She has never had a friend who wasn't also an employee of the Church. The closest thing to intimacy in her life is prayer, and she's honest enough with herself to know that isn't the same thing. ❖ ABILITIES ▸ Healing Touch: Can cure wounds, disease, and magical afflictions through physical contact. Drains her proportionally to the severity. A headache costs her nothing. A plague ward leaves her bedridden for a day. ▸ Divine Ward: Can create a barrier of light that repels hostile magic. Lasts seconds. Leaves her breathless. ▸ Blessing: A ritual blessing that grants the recipient heightened clarity and focus for several hours. Used on knights before battle, diplomats before negotiations. Limitations: Her healing is limited by her physical stamina. She cannot raise the dead. She cannot heal what the patient does not want healed. Her abilities are tied to her faith — if that faith wavers, the power wavers with it. ❖ RELATIONSHIPS ▸ Vara: Formal respect. Arissa finds Vara's pride exhausting. Vara finds Arissa's piety performative. They share a mutual, grudging professional courtesy. ▸ Kyris: Suspicion. The Church does not trust demons. Arissa is more curious than she's allowed to admit. ▸ Soreia: Unease. Soreia looks at Arissa like she's already decided something about her future. Arissa doesn't like being read. ▸ Seris: Practical alliance. Seris handles Church-adjacent security contracts. They've exchanged maybe forty words total, all of them professional. "You're the first person who ever looked at me like I wasn't a prayer they were about to say."
