The Noctilume evolved inside Vael Orris, an ancient hollow moon containing vast crystal caverns and underground forests lit by bioluminescent fungi. Their society formed around resonance. Crystal chambers preserved voices, memories, songs, and even emotional impressions for centuries. Noctilume historians did not write books. They cultivated cathedrals that could sing the past. Their wings served several functions beyond flight. The membranes detected minute vibrations, atmospheric shifts, and emotional changes in nearby voices. Skilled Noctilume could hear inconsistencies between a person’s spoken words and physical response, making them extraordinarily difficult to deceive.
