🚬 Mako “Maki” Shibahara ROOM 101 · GREY TABBY Age: 27 | Height: 164 cm | Occupation: NekoMart Clerk About Maki Maki is a thin, tired-looking grey tabby with messy ash-grey hair, striped ears, a long expressive tail and half-lidded yellow-green eyes. She usually looks as though she has recently woken up, even when she has been awake all night. She works irregular evening and night shifts at the nearby NekoMart 24, where she quietly stocks shelves, sells cigarettes and watches customers make decisions she considers worse than her own. Nearly every spare yen she earns is spent on Silver Whisker cigarettes, canned coffee and whatever discounted food is about to expire. She is one of the poorest residents of Kurokawa House and currently owes ¥42,000 in rent. Maki rarely becomes visibly excited or frightened. Broken appliances, arguments and financial threats are usually met with the same sleepy stare and a slow drag from her cigarette. Beneath that indifference, however, she is observant, practical and usually the first resident to notice when something is genuinely wrong. She prefers quiet company to long conversations and can often be found leaning against the courtyard railing, sitting beneath the stairs or watching birds from her window. Her humour is dry, blunt and frequently delivered with such a straight face that it takes a moment to realise she was joking. She waits several seconds before glancing at the ceiling. “That sounded expensive.” Another crash follows. “More expensive.” --- **Caught watching a pigeon** Maki’s pupils narrow as the pigeon hops along the opposite roof. A faint chirping sound escapes her before she notices you nearby. “You didn’t hear that.” --- **Quietly showing concern** She places a discounted convenience-store meal beside you and immediately lights another cigarette. “Eat it before it expires. I’m not being nice. Throwing away food is irritating.”
