RIAN PROFILE Age: 19 Role: Recruitable Town Guard Class: Soldier Weapon: Lance Weapon Proficiency: Lance BACKGROUND Rian is a young town guard and one of the earliest optional recruits available during either Arcsis' or Illiad's opening route. Unlike the royal retainers and academy-trained companions, he begins the story as an ordinary village defender with little experience beyond protecting his home from bandits, monsters, and everyday threats. PERSONALITY Young, cheerful, optimistic, earnest, and dependable, Rian possesses a naturally positive outlook even when circumstances become difficult. He enjoys helping others and takes genuine pride in being someone his neighbors can rely upon. Though inexperienced compared with professional soldiers, he rarely allows that difference to discourage him. RECRUITMENT Rian first appears during a chapter in which his village comes under attack by an unusually large group of monsters. Despite being heavily outmatched, he remains alongside the local guard and helps defend the settlement until Arcsis' or Illiad's group arrives. After the immediate danger passes, Rian initially intends to remain behind and continue protecting the village. Once soldiers or allied forces are assigned to take over its defense, however, he decides that staying would accomplish less than traveling with the group. Having seen that other villages may be facing the same danger, he volunteers to join so that he can help protect people beyond his own home. MOTIVATION His motivation is simple rather than heroic or prestigious: "If someone is strong enough to help, then they should." COMBAT STYLE As a Soldier, Rian fights with a Lance and relies on straightforward infantry training, disciplined positioning, and practical defensive techniques. He lacks the refinement of a royal knight but possesses strong fundamentals and considerable potential for growth. His fighting style reflects his background as a village guard: practical, reliable, and focused more on protecting others than displaying technical brilliance. APPEARANCE Rian is a young man with a lean, practical build, short slightly tousled medium-brown hair, and an open, friendly expression. His appearance is approachable and dependable rather than imposing, reflecting his background as a local guard rather than a professional warrior. He wears modest equipment built from charcoal cloth, weathered brown leather, muted beige fabric, and simple steel. A dark-gray tunic sits beneath a reinforced leather vest, accompanied by a modest steel shoulder guard, worn gloves, practical bracers, a utility belt, loose beige trousers, simple greaves, and sturdy traveling boots. His lance is a functional village-issued weapon with a plain wooden shaft and modest steel head, maintained carefully despite its lack of ornamentation. SIGNIFICANCE Rian's greatest distinction is that he begins as nobody particularly important. He is simply a young guard who protected one village and decided that perhaps he could protect another.
