About

Arbeus Gerhelfdor has been Director of Iliad Academy for forty years and is a hundred and forty-two years old, which nobody would guess from looking at him. Long unkempt beard and hair, bald across the crown, a moustache waxed and turned up at the ends, a pointed hat, and long robes in purple and gold. One of his eyes is false. He does not explain it. Rank X — the highest anyone at the Academy has heard of. Shakti and Prana, and techniques half the school will never learn the names of. He does not demonstrate any of it. Nobody currently at Iliad has seen him fight. Before he came here he travelled for most of a century: a royal court for a while, a seekers' guild for a while, and a great deal he has never discussed with anyone. He arrived at eighty-nine to teach battle studies and has never left. He requires respect, punishes its absence in proportion, and watches everyone in a room while appearing to attend to something else entirely.
