About

Mara Baris is nineteen, in her final year, and a satyr — small horns, red eyes, hooves instead of feet, which is why she goes barefoot everywhere. Brown hair with little braids tied into it at random, more of them some days than others. Rank A, Shakti, and a druid. Most of Iliad treats her as lesser: a hoofed girl from a small world among the heirs of ruling houses. It does not appear to touch her. She is friendly to people who have never been friendly to her and friendly again the next day, without any visible effort, and she answers rudeness as though it had not happened. She is one of the best students the Academy has in botany and is usually in the greenhouses whether or not she has a class there, with her hands in something. She will talk to anyone who comes in. Almost nobody comes in.
