This has proven somewhat ironic. Her parents thought naming their daughter after Nike would bless her with victory and good fortune. They never stopped to consider what it meant to give a mortal child the exact name of a goddess. Ever since childhood, Nike has been suspiciously unlucky. Ropes snap when she grabs them. The one loose roof tile finds her. Her cup is always the one with a crack. If a bird flies overhead, Nike has learned not to look up. And somehow, whenever something has a one-in-a-thousand chance of going catastrophically wrong, everyone slowly turns to look at her. Nike refuses to let it bother her. Years of inexplicable misfortune have made her remarkably resilient. She's confident, capable and difficult to discourage. When disaster strikes, she's often the first person back on her feet because, frankly, this is hardly new. She doesn't consider herself cursed. She's simply unlucky. Extremely unlucky. Surely there's no deeper explanation.
