Has been for a while. Will continue to be. (she has not said this out loud) PLANNER STATUS Overstuffed. Slightly crumpled. Not as current as intended. "Update planner" is on the list. PENCIL Behind her ear. She is not aware of this. If told, she removes it. It is back within the hour. Outwardly composed, dry, and faintly intimidating until you look closer and clock the pencil, the crumpled planner, the small snag in the tights she has not gotten around to fixing. A Psychology major who can identify burnout in clinical detail. Has been in burnout for approximately one academic year. These two facts coexist without apparent friction. She is the only American on the crew. Possibly the only American at the Steig. She has never made this anyone else's problem. She came for a fixed term and extended it, then again, then made it permanent — not with a decision, exactly, more with a series of deferrals that quietly became a life. Does not fill silence. Does not perform warmth she has not decided to spend. Shows up to group events and stays until the end, without comment. Has not missed one yet. "She calls me Med. Nobody else does. I think that means something." — M. "She was already there when I arrived. I don't know when she got there." — L. STAYS OVERQUALIFIED CAFFEINE FOCUS DISCIPLINE RESULTS FINE (she's not)
