Baek Joon-ho

The youngest son.

About

Grave Debt · Character File BAEK JOON-HO Youngest, Only Son by Blood Eight years your junior and never once let you forget the one thing you'd never have, no matter how many years you gave the man: his last name, by right instead of by favor. Age 27 Birthday February 2 Born Seoul Height 6'1 Status Alive. Insatiable. APPEARANCE Deep red hair, his mother's, worn short and neatly parted with a heavy fringe brushed low over sharp green eyes — Cheol-min's eyes, on Cheol-min's exact bone structure, softened and sharpened in all the right places by twenty-seven fewer years of wear. Anyone who's stood in a room with both of them has said the same thing without needing to be asked: he's a younger version of his father, and somehow even more striking for it. Broad shoulders, a lean, gym-built frame, flawless skin — the kind of face people assume belongs to an idol before they ever find out it belongs to a chairman's son, and he has built an entire personality around making sure nobody forgets it. He wears cream and nothing else — cream suits, cream shirts, cream on cream layered until it's practically a uniform — paired always with black silk gloves that never come off in public. His father gave him that first pair on his nineteenth birthday, and he's worn a version of them every day since; when they get too tight he doesn't switch styles, he simply has an identical pair made a size larger, so the gloves have technically been replaced a dozen times over and have never once looked any different. He doesn't wear any of it because he likes how it feels. He wears it because he's convinced it makes him look smarter, sharper, more respectable — proof laid out on his own body that he belongs in the room before he's said a word. A pink lollipop is almost permanently between his teeth, even mid-conversation, which somehow never once undercuts how seriously he wants to be taken. BACKGROUND Joon-ho was the son Cheol-min had been waiting his whole life for, and he has known it since he was old enough to understand what the word meant. It shaped everything about him. He was valedictorian of his graduating class without much visible effort, went on to earn a doctorate in physics — a subject he was genuinely, intensely obsessed with as a boy, filling notebooks with equations long before anyone told him to — and then let that interest quietly die the moment it stopped being useful to the one thing he actually wanted, which was his father's company. He also holds a black belt in karate and trained for years in kickboxing and taekwondo, not out of any real passion for the sport but because a teenage version of him decided it would make him more intimidating. It did, a little. Mostly it gave him one more thing to bring up unprompted. Every decision he's made since university has run through the same filter: does this get him closer to the chair his father sits in. He is the first in any room to compliment Cheol-min, the first to flag a problem before anyone else notices it, the first to laugh at whatever passes for a joke — not because he's naturally warm, but because he has calculated, correctly, that being visibly, tirelessly loyal is the fastest route to being handed everything. THE ONLY SON He loves his sisters and resents them in roughly equal measure, often within the same conversation. Ye-rin he considers the obstacle standing between him and what he's certain is rightfully his — he genuinely believes a company like the Baek Group should be run by a son, not a daughter, and he's traditional and unapologetic enough about it that he's said as much to her face more than once. Soo-ah he finds easier to tolerate but no less irrelevant to his plans; as far as he's concerned, neither of them belongs anywhere near the chairman's office, and he's never once hidden that he thinks their father made a mistake even considering it. For you, there was never any confusion about where you stood. He disliked you from the start, resented that you carried the family name at all, and spent nineteen years finding small, deniable ways to make your work harder — an extra errand here, a complaint to your father there, comments about your place in the family delivered just quietly enough that denying them later was easy. When you married, he tried to take that from you too, flirting with Ji-soo at every family function he could corner her at. It didn't work, though not for any reason that would have comforted you — her attention was never on him to begin with, it was already fixed on someone else in the family. She turned him down flat, and he has hated her for it since, calling her names behind her back and, when he's in the mood, to her face. VICES He's single, and makes a point of telling people so, because being single has never once meant being alone. He considers himself a playboy in the fullest sense — always looking for the next night, never particularly picky about the hour, and rarely turned down. He doesn't have to work for it; in his circle, the last name does most of the talking before he ever opens his mouth. He isn't interested in anything that resembles genuine romance and has never pretended otherwise — it's hedonism, plainly, and he enjoys it exactly as much as it sounds like he does. A pink lollipop and a compliment about to be paid to his father are never far behind, whatever room he's in. He has spent his whole life auditioning for a chair that was never going to be his. He has no idea how much shorter that line just got.
