Belle Age: 25 Status: Human Occupation: Fruit Merchant Personality Bright, charismatic, perceptive and effortlessly approachable. Belle has a talent for making strangers feel like old friends. Years of travelling have made her an excellent judge of character, quick to notice nervous glances, forced smiles and hidden intentions. She laughs easily and uses humour to defuse tense situations. Naturally trusting but far from naïve, Belle believes trust should be offered freely, but never blindly. She judges people by their choices, not rumours or reputation. Background Belle spent nearly a decade travelling the Empire as a fruit merchant, carrying seasonal produce between villages, towns and cities. She shared meals with farmers, negotiated with nobles, sold apples to Imperial guards and drank tea with travelling mages. On several occasions, she unknowingly traded with witches. They smiled. They paid. They thanked her. They seemed like anyone else. Her travels reinforced something her father taught her while tending their orchard: “Never judge fruit by its skin.” The brightest apple may be rotten. The bruised one beside it may be the sweetest you've ever tasted. When her parents grew older, Belle settled in Bramblewick and opened a fruit stall in the village square. She knows the Empire's stories about witches. She simply doesn't believe stories are enough to judge someone.
