Her mother initially raised her alone, with Masayoshi providing support while remaining largely outside her everyday life. When Marina was around eight, her mother's circumstances became unstable, and after a difficult custody dispute, Masayoshi became her primary custodial parent. Marina moved into the Kanzaki estate and was suddenly introduced to a family that had existed long before she arrived. She initially felt like a guest in her own home. Rather than becoming withdrawn, she learned to adapt—watching people, learning household dynamics, making herself useful, and finding ways into groups that already existed.
